Pushing It: Summer Dress in March

This is a tad too summery for a 70 degree Spring day in Atlanta. But when the sun is shining and the birds are singing and the trees are blooming (and my eyes are watering and nose is running- damn you, allergies!), I push appropriate work attire aside. Who needs it?! Also, I  just got this LNA dress via Shopbop and had to wear it the day I ripped open the package, because I believe in delayed (by a few seconds) gratification.

Apologies for more kissy poses- after three years of blogging I still feel uncomfortable in front of the camera and the kissy-pose is my goofy response to awkwardness. Awkwardness masked by goofiness. Works perfectly every time.

I threw a vintage sweater over the dress to be a little more office friendly. The earrings are from Heliotrope, the belt is F21, shoes are from Zara a couple of years ago, the big yellow bag (in the top photo) is from a little boutique in NOLA.

For those of you readers that noticed Cath and I color-coordinate our bookshelves- well spotted! We know this method of cataloging may make literati cringe, but we find it pleasing to the eye and practical. I usually remember the cover/color of a book more than a title. I do love a good book cover!

Lovely little souvenirs from this week: flowers from the bf (le swoon) and a free preview cd of the upcoming Harper Blynn album (picked one up at their concert at the Drunken Unicorn on Tuesday).

Speaking of concerts.my cure to smoky-smelling hair? I washed it at night immediately after the concert and braided it when it was mostly dry- et voila! Next morning. textured, wavy things! I used to do this in middle school when I wanted curly hair, but I would do far too many braids and wake up looking like I’d slept with my finger in a socket all night.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend full of sunny, warm days and chirping birds and mounds of sleep.

  1. GORGEOUS!! That dress is perfect on you. I love the color against your skin. 🙂 and yes I spotted your bookshelves I love that it’s color coordinated! I think I’ll give this a try 🙂 Lar, hope you’re doing well. HUGS!

    xx Love & Aloha

    1. You should, Sharon! It’s really satisfying to color coordinate your bookshelves. at least for me 😉

  2. what an gorgeous dress! great find- and nice post. i too tried to colour coordinate the books. but now its all messy

    i cant wait for summer!!
    xx ediot

    1. Ooo Cath also taught me to arrange my color and then within color groups, arrange the books by height- that will make it look a tad less messy, E 😉

  3. I so envy your weather, doll. And you look positively smokin’ in the bright blue frock. If it’s warm enough, why the hell not?

  4. :: raises hand :: Also guilty of the middle-school-girl mindset that maybe if I put in MORE braids, the curls will be curlier and I’ll look BETTER. Then again, it was probably because I have “Asian hair” and even if I leave braids in all weekend long, come Monday morning, the “curls” will still stay quasi-curly for only 3 hours before it resumes pin-straight bore.

    1. My hair used to do the same thing, Taryn! I do have a bit of Cajun wave in it, but they aren’t as tiny as the waves I get with braids. I found if I add some styling products before I braid (and make sure your hair is about 80% dry) and then hair spray the living daylights out of it when I unbraid them- it last much longer.

  5. I’m a total literati, book snob, but I love the color coding of the books. LOVE! I collect books and one of my life goals is to have a bigger personal library than Cotton Mather (who is that, I know). It helps me remember where the books are if I see the colors of the shelves. Who knows?

  6. This dress looks great on you! I like how you made it office-appropriate with a vintage cardi; a sweater does a lot to transform a look, doesn’t it?

  7. haha. I just look away. The only thing I hate worse than photos of myself is hearing my voice played back. Somehow I think the ‘kissy face’ would vibe a little too creepy if I did it.

That is cool that you guys do your shelves Pantone style. Is it weird that there is absolutely no order to the 5 bookshelves in my apartment? Or the stacks of books on the floor near my bed?
Maybe I shouldn’t have admitted that in public.

oh and 70 degrees? When it breaks like 65 here people go crazy. Shorts, skirts, sundresses the whole shebang. When I was talking about ‘great’ weather it was 55-60.

  8. Love the dress! The blue is a great color for you 🙂 I actually colorize my bookshelves too. It’s funny how I can always recall the cover of a book, but not always the exact title. Happy weekend!

  9. love this outfit.
    love the hair.
and LOVE that you color coordinate your bookshelves!

i’m soooooo wishing it was in the 70s here.this morning i woke up and it was only 29! EEEEKKKK!!! 70s next weekend though. hooray!

  10. Beautiful dress! I can relate to wearing summery clothes as soon as spring comes my way! Gorgeous flowers by the way, and the color-coordinated book shelves are a great idea!

  11. Oooh, what a great color for you, Lar! I am itching to wear all of my summer-summery clothes lately too.

Oh, I am now working part time in Decatur, so perhaps meeting up will be much easier to coordinate!

  12. Great dress! It looks super comfy. I think your poses are awesome, you’re a natural! I feel awkward sometimes as well and my ‘mask’ is to make fun of myself in the caption below lol. So are you telling me this doesn’t get any easier 3 years later?? haha
