Vote for Us!

For the past month Lar and I have been meaning to enter in Atlanta Magazine’s Head to Toe contest. The only problem? We don’t have any recent photos of us together. Lucky for us, my bf is something of a Renaissance man: musician, photographer and photoshopper extraordinaire.

We spent Saturday afternoon in the million degree heat trying to find good spots for photos. Here we are unintentionally posing as an updated version of American Gothic at Leon’s. Lar is wearing her gorgeous secondhand silk shirt with a necklace her bf got her from Snoozer Loser. I’m wearing a summer dress from Kaleidoscope Boutique with a Rodarte for Target cardi and Forever 21 sunglasses.

Even before we started taking photos, my bf had the brilliant idea to do a reflection shot made possible with some Photoshop magic.

The contest voting seems to be a bit wonky (everyone has very low scores), but if you could vote for us on Atlanta Magazine’s site we would be forever grateful. Thank you to everyone who has already voted! Also, let us know if you enter and we’ll vote for you too! The contest ends on July 31st.

31 Bloggers, 1 LBD

Cath and I are sooo excited! We get to be part of The Society Stylist’s Little Black Dress Experiment! What is that? Well, check out Valerie Elizabeth’s Dress Diaries from last August here. She wore the same Ann Taylor LBD 31 different ways during the month of August.

This year, Valerie Elizabeth and her crew have asked 31 fashion bloggers from around the nation to be part of her experiment. A different blogger wears the Ann Taylor black dress each day during the month of August.

We’re not sure which day Cath and I will be posting in August, but we’ll make sure it will be up on AsianCajuns as well as the Society Stylist. Anddd there will be a way for you guys to enter your own LBD photos and win some goodies! Details forthcoming.

Happy Monday! We hope you all had a lovely weekend and that this day slips by painlessly.

Back in Chastown

Photo from The Review by Nate.

Cath and I love Charleston: the history, the gorgeous houses, the beach, the food. and the people! One of my besties lives there, so my bf and I headed to the coast last weekend to visit him and his bf. I was a reluctant photographer over the weekend, so I swiped a few of these from Nate. If you need to know where to go and (more importantly) what to eat and drink when in Charleston, go to Nate’s blog The Review: heavenly photos and witty tips.

We spent the evenings strolling the historic alleyways of Charleston and sipping (okay, downing) some delicious cocktails on roof-top bars.

In between drinks, we also ate real food (dinner at Lucca and brunch at High Cotton). Below is a photo of the heavenly, heavenly banana and nutella turnover I swooned over at a little coffee shop.

We topped off our pre-cocktail drinks with a round of white Russians (my favorite!). Pst the writer of The Review, my bestie, is on the right (our bfs are in the muddle).

I hope you guys have a wonderful Friday and weekend! Drink a white Russian for me 😉

Things I’m Loving Right Now

1.) My new Dolce Vita Blakely top – asymmetric sleeves, soft jersey, loose fit around the middle (no need to suck in the stomach!) and perfect for work or going out. In the photo, I’m wearing it with a pencil skirt and heels, but I’d love to pair it with some super skinny, cropped black trousers and ballet flats.

2.) Arrow ring by Low Luv x Erin Wasson. I’ve been looking for an inexpensive gold ring that has stacking potential. Plus, Low Luv is Erin’s only design partnership now that RVCA has dumped her.

3.) Popeye’s Red Beans and Rice. I always love red beans and rice, especially when my mom makes them, but sometimes I get a HUGE craving for the Popeye’s version. I don’t know what they put in it, but it’s delicious, fast food, Cajun goodness in a cup.

Belt Your Scarf

Take a long scarf, fold it in half, drape it around your neck. Belt the whole thing at your waist, et voila! It’s kind of like wearing a vest without a back.

Scarf and tank are from Old Navy, belt is Madewell, skirt is from Target.

The shoes are. Frye. Here’s the thing about these shoes

. these are my vanity shoes. They aren’t comfortable (hello, wooden sole, you inflexible bastard) and I kind of teeter more than walk at 5.5 inches, but they put me in the neighborhood of 5’8 (almost the height of a short model!) and the buff color makes my legs look even longer. I wear them on days when I’m going to be sitting. Alot.

Work Vest

Right after work on Friday my bf and I did a little bit of bar hopping, Brick Store Pub –> Young Augustine’s –> Palate Wine Bar. Needless to say, it was a fun evening. I’m blaming my cheesy, overly pose-y stance on the two high gravity beers I already had in me when my bf snapped this by Young Augustine’s – a great beer bar/gastro pub in south Atlanta.

F21 vest, Simply Vera tank from Kohl’s, AA skirt, Dolce Vita shoes and bag from Vivid.

I wear vests to work a lot in the summer and this Forever 21 vest is one of my favorite. I like the longer proportions and the slightly rolled sleeves. I bought it last year because it reminded me of that gorgeous blue YSL vest that Juliana Moore wore on the cover of Domino.

I should have asked my bf to take a closer shot of the sleeves and lapel, but the photo below will give you a better idea of the cut. I know Forever21 gets a lot of slack for copycatting, but I would never in a million years be able to afford the YSL version.

PS: The vest isn’t the only thing I copied from that Domino cover. I also painted my apartment with the same wall color, Benjamin Moore Iced Mauve.

Two Things Everyone Loves: Neon and Crop Tops!

Remember The Crop Top to Work idea from a few posts back? I did it again, but took it one step further– neon. If someone said to me “Oh I just love wearing neon, especially if it shows off my belly button ring” I would probably back away slowly, but I actually own just such a piece of clothing, and I wear it to work. Again, I paired it with a high-waisted skirt and a black cami underneath. The minute I actually start showings off my (non-existent) belly button ring, you can stop reading this blog.

To add to the neon (kind of like gilding the lily), I decided to wear my very large, clear plastic necklace from Rockit.

ps- I hope you guys are having a great weekend! What are you up to? My bf and I are in Charleston visiting this guy again. Miss you, Cath!

Eye-searing pink crop top, camisole, and skirt from AA, shoes are Jeffery Campbell, necklace from Rockit Boutique in Decatur.

Books and Clothes.like peas and butter

Books and clothes don’t seem like much of a combination, but they’re two of my favorite things. If you made me choose between the two, I wouldn’t know what to do.  Lar and I grew up in a house filled with books and our mom got us hooked on reading at a young age (John Bellairs books used to be our favorite summer reads – pre Harry Potter goodness). It freaks me out a little when I go into house that doesn’t have any books. How is that possible?

In the photo below, I’m standing in my parent’s current library/sitting room. They gave away most of their books when they moved down to Atlanta last year, but with monthly trips to the local thrift stores, book sales, book festivals, local book signings and indie book stores, we’re building the collection back up.

Outfit details: Shirt from Evolve Boutique, Asos denim pencil skirt and Seychelles heels.

It’s that time of the season where I start getting really sick of the clothes I have. My summer work wardrobe consists of a small rotation of sleeveless shirts and skirts. Maybe once the summer sales start I can stock up on some floral pencil skirts and cute silk tanks.

I think I’ve shown this necklace on the blog before. The pendant is a prehistoric squid fossil. Don’t believe me? Call Vivid Boutique, they’ll make one for you!

Dry Pond, Georgia

So this weekend my wonderful bf took me up to northern Georgia for a belated birthday weekend away. We stayed at a B&B in Toccoa, Georgia. Toccoa means “Beautiful” in Cherokee. Yup. Beautiful. Cheesy? Expected? Sure. However, “Beautiful’s” original name was Dry Pond. Surprisingly, Dry Pond didn’t take off as a tourist spot.

The B&B was beautiful, as is most of northern Georgia. Really. If you guys need any suggestions, just shoot me an email. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend too!

Tank by Esperanza, skirt and bag from a small boutique in New Orleans, shoes are Nine West.

New Summer Work Purse

Usually when I buy a purse I wear it for about six months straight. The last new purse I got was a Christmas gift from Lar. It was great for the winter and spring, but lately I’ve been itching to tote around something a little more summery. My search ended at Vivid Boutique where I found this gray, vegan satchel. Perfect for work and big enough to carry around a book or two on the weekend.

I’m sitting on my couch in my new studio apartment. You can’t really tell, but I painted the walls of my living area Iced Mauve. I think it brings out the green of my couch and the gray of my new purse very nicely.
