Belt Your Scarf

Take a long scarf, fold it in half, drape it around your neck. Belt the whole thing at your waist, et voila! It’s kind of like wearing a vest without a back.

Scarf and tank are from Old Navy, belt is Madewell, skirt is from Target.

The shoes are… Frye. Here’s the thing about these shoes..

… these are my vanity shoes. They aren’t comfortable (hello, wooden sole, you inflexible bastard) and I kind of teeter more than walk at 5.5 inches, but they put me in the neighborhood of 5’8 (almost the height of a short model!) and the buff color makes my legs look even longer. I wear them on days when I’m going to be sitting. Alot.

I’ve seen this “belt your scarf” look done elsewhere but haven’t attempted it yet. Your scarf adds a refreshing touch of turquoise to your outfit!

i have this scarf in yellow, and i’m going to do this; although, i’m not near as teeny as you, so it may backfire.

5 and a half inch heels? Girls are amazing. I couldn’t even stand, let alone walk. How do girls walk up stairs in heels? I’m in New York and I seriously can’t imagine how you guys run to catch a cab or train in those things. Wasn’t it Ginger Rodgers who said she did everything Fred Astaire did but backwards and in heels?

So true, Jon! I wonder if she could do it in wooden clog heels?

A dress would work really well, Melissa. That way you can place the belt wherever you want. I like mine high so that it makes my legs look longer ;) If you pair it with pants it might look a little weird not to have the belt sit on the waist of the pants.

I’ll level with ya: I’m not a big fan of the belted scarf overall. But I think it TOTALLY works here!

What a great idea (and love the unexpected use of color)! I’m on a *spending hiatus* so this is a great way to recycle stuff I already have in my closet.

    Cheers!

I’ve also seen the belt-your-scarf look in the past but it was not cute. THIS, however, makes me want to try it. Your execution is what makes the difference. Love the combination of colors and textures here! Your style really is impeccable.

I do this, too, when it’s not too hot out like it is now.

I want a good tiered scarf in a gauzy fabric. I have to have one because I saw Olivia Palermo do it and I envy the shit out of her style.

This reminds me of a funkier version of that!
