Getting Ready in 45 Minutes

A few days ago Troy and I decided to treat ourselves to omakase at Craft Izakaya after work. I worked until 5:30 p.m., worked out for an hour, and then had 45 minutes to shower, do my hair and makeup, and find something to wear.

I went from a hot, sweaty mess (the photo doesn’t fully show off the oiliness of my hair):

Getting Ready After

I know some women can get ready in 15 minutes or less, but if I have to wash my hair, it’s going to be at least 30 minutes. I have super thick hair, a cheap hair dryer, and an old CHI straightener. That combination means a decent amount of time fiddling with my hair. So getting ready in 45 minutes is like lightening speed for me.

How about you? How fast does it take you to get ready? And recommendations for a decent, but not too expensive, hair dryer?

  1. If I’m washing my hair, I need 30 minutes to shower, let my hair air dry for a few minutes while I put makeup on, then dry it quickly. My hair is fine but there’s a lot of it and it dries quickly. The best days are where I can let my hair air dry for an hour before I finish getting ready. For an evening out though, 45 minutes seems super fast to me!

    1. ok, good! As soon as I wrote this post I thought, “wait, is 45 minutes a long time?” Because to me it seems really fast. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks so!

I wish I could let my hair air dry, but it looks like a frizzy mess if I do.

  2. It takes me about 30-45 minutes after my Friday Bar Method class to look presentable to humanity again. That includes a shower, washing my hair and doing something with it (usually a braided updo or ponytail in which damp locks will help the ‘do look more polished), putting on my original daytime outfit, and doing my makeup (primer, powder, blush, mascara, eyebrow pencil).

    1. I’m taking my first barre class tomorrow! I have to go back to work afterwards so your experience gives me a good idea of what time I’ll get back in the office. I don’t plan on blow drying my hair so that should definitely cut down on time.

  3. I am capable of getting out the door in 15 if my legs are either shaved or covered with pants and my hair is clean. The key to doing that is I only wash my hair at most twice a week and I go two days between shaving. I usually let my hair air dry too with a super wicking micro fiber towel and then wear it curly! You look great in these photos by the way.

    1. I need a micro fiber towel. I can never completely air dry my hair, but if I could towel dry most of it, that would help cut down on time. I have to wash my hair around 3 times a week. I wish I could cut it down to 2 like you!

  4. I think it takes me an hour! I’m so slow in the shower and my hairs always takes time — even when I’m not blow drying! I’m so impressed, Cath that you can do it so quickly Cath — blowdry and straighten and look gorgeous to boot? You need to teach me these things when I see you — in LESS THAN TWO MONTHS!!!!

    XOXOXO,
    Lar

    1. Less than two months!!! I’m so excited! I bet you get faster than you think. That or I’m really crap at putting on make-up – that’s where i cut corners.

I get to see you sooooooo soon!

  5. 45 mins post workout with hair drying is really quick! On work days I can squeeze it into 20 mins if I don’t blow dry, and don’t need to shave (25 if I am taking it a little easy/dawdling and 25-30 if I do have to shave and/or blowdry). I always wash my hair (I know you shouldn’t but my hair is curly and short and I always look like my finger got stuck in a socket when I wake up and in my experience it takes more time making in presentable when I don’t wash it). I also use a microfiber hair wrap thingie which gets most of the moisture out while I’m getting moisturised, dressed and make-upped and I just let it air dry unless the temp is below freezing (C).
On date nights I am talking 60-75 mins depending on how often I re-think my make-up and start-over. I probably could squeeze it into 45 mins if hardpressed, well prepared and stick to the plan, but have never put it to the test, will defo try it next date night though, this could be the start of a new and improved date night routine 😉
