Outfit of the Week: Unabashedly Girly

Can you think of one current (i.e. trendy) fashion icon that dresses in an unabashedly girly way? I don’t mean the occasional feminine blouse with brogues (a la Alexa Chung) or a floral mini dress with black leather and hardware (thank you, Chloe Sevigny). I mean, really girly: ruffles, hour glass silhouettes, lots of color, big rings (with nary a cross or pyramid stud), heels without the clunk.

I miss it. I really do. I mean, Cath and I still lust after Alexander Wang tees and fell for the tomboyish bodycon charm of Erin Wasson. But after a few months of wearing leggings and oversized sweaters and heavy chains, I’m yearning for something a little more like this:

Today’s inspiration comes from Ms. Lindsay Price (aka Victory Ford on the now defunct television series ‘Lipstick Jungle’). Apart from her girly wardrobe, Cath and I are also fans of Price because she’s a biracial baby just like us (KoreanGermanIrish vs. our ChineseFrenchDanishGermanIrish). There really aren’t a lot of women on television who look like us, so we always get a little excited when we someone kind of AsianCajun-ish. For many years, the only celebrity people could think to compare us to was Michelle Kwan.

Back to the girliness. here’s your Polyvore for the week:

To see a full listing of where all these goodies are from, click this link. Every item is under $100.ahhh so tempting!
I think I’ve included these Rachel Leigh gumball rings in nearly every Outfit of the Week polyvore I’ve done. Mmmmnomnomnom. gumballs. They are available at Shopbop for $68 a pop.
Yeah, a lot of girliness, I know. After a few days of this I’d probably throw some baggy tees, skinny jeans and chunky heels back into the mix, but isn’t the frilly froth nice sometimes?

  1. Very uber girly. I can’t wait for spring to be able to really enjoy wearing these types of items. And I love the turquoise floral dress! Oh yes, and of course the rings, tres fab!

  2. I have the opposite problem: My wardrobe is so full of ruffles, florals, full-skirted frocks, and ornately detailed pieces that I’m constantly striving to mix in masculine lines and a harder edge to counterbalance the sweetness. But hey, a mixture of styles makes things more interesting, right?

  3. AH! I LOVE Lindsay Price! She was the only reason I watched that show, and the only reason I watched Eastwick which unfortunately was cancelled after a few episodes. I can’t wait to see her on another show again And those gumball rings are fantastic must add to my spring/summer wishlist.

  4. I’m totally in this mood as well. I bought a pair of the abaete payless pumps with the satin bow, and wore a high waisted skirt and cardy the other day.tired of looking like a homeless person.i want tailored, girly, “frilly froth” as you put it. and i adored lindsay price in lipstick jungle. i want everything she wore!

  5. I love the Polyvore collection! I am a sucker for girly stuff and I do have some preddy preddy things in my closet. Frilly blouses, bows, kitten heels. bring them on!

  6. I love that polyvore and those sweet coloured rings!

I’ve always thought that Lindsay Price was beautiful! I really liked Lipstick Jungle when it was on!

  7. love the unabashed girliness! frills, skirts, pink, galore. i am definitely guilty of falling into the skinnies & tees habit, but i do love a great dress/skirt!

  8. Love, love, love Lindsay Price! She is so gorg and I loved her in Lipstick Jungle. Best wardrobe ever!

These dresses are so flirty and I love the ruffles. The rings are fab too!

  9. Why am I so weird and still have this post unread?

Now I want to go track down episodes of Lipstick Jungle–I’ve never seen it. The outfits look so fab and ready for work. And ooooh I am obsessed with the Gumball rings too. I can’t decide which color! I think I have three different ones on my current wishlist.
