AsianCajun Year in Review

Happy 2010, wonderful readers!!! We hope you had a wonderful New Year’s and are relaxing this first weekend of the new year.

I had a fairly low-key New Year’s (herring and salmon with the ‘rents and drinks with friends), while Cath left me for Philly/NYC- sniff, sniff- our first New Year’s apart. (Hope you are having a lovely time in NYC today, Cath. Remember your dearest, sweetest sister when you step into Uniqlo!).

I thought a good way to start the year would be to review a year of AsianCajun outfits. I really hope this isn’t too much fashion navel-gazing for you all. I am actually doing this for selfish reasons. I like using this blog as a style tool when I can. And even though I’ve rounded the bend of my mid-twenties, I’m still trying to figure out my style. I think Cath (on the left of all the photos) has a very classic and elegant, but fresh style. Mine is still a bit of a mish-mosh. I foresee myself saying the same thing at 40.

Cath does animal print way before I ventured there with my Rodarte dress.

This is actually one of my favorite outfits of the year (right). And shivering at the gusty 20 degree winds outside, I can’t wait for our balmier Georgia winter weather- I’m not even wearing a jacket and it’s February! Hoorahh, Deep South!

Cath looking chic and Chanel-y. Me looking trendy, trendy. I’m going to try to pry my figures off trends this year a bit more. Note to self, baggy, ripped-up tees only work on some.

Both Cath and I are dressed a bit more girlie and soft here for Easter. I should stop shying away from pastels.

Pencil skirts unite! Cath wore this to work, and I wore my outfit to a concert.

Again, Cath is so chic! I’m seriously going to start raiding her closet. As for my relaxed summer look: I think I’m over cut-offs for the year. I’ll probably have to eat these words come summer 2010.

Ahhh summer tans. feels like so many shades ago.

Cath and I are both partial to hats in the southern summer heat.

Two of our favorite pair of shoes this year: Cath’s booties are Alice & Olivia from Payless and mine are F21 ($14)!

I love this black and white look on Cath. I’m wearing practically the same thing, but with a (huge) dash of military red.

Lovely layers. Cath was inspired by J.Crew and I was inspired by Swedish bloggers. I figure they would know how to dress in frigid weather.

Quirky scarf-wearers. These photos remind me to be more creative with my accessorizing this year. Resolution #57.

What was your own favorite look from 2009? Are you ready for leggings to roll over and die? How about faux fur coats (please say no- I just bought a faux leopard that I’ll show you in an upcoming post)? Done with over-the-knee boots? Platforms? Black leather and studs? Bodycon dresses? Shoulder pads? Alexander Wang and Balmain? Lady Gaga (never!)? Vampires? The recession? Prop #8? It’s a free-for-all. Let’s hear it!

  1. I’ve not worn leggings in the longest time! Too cold.I’ve been opting for tights with knee highs!

I love how different you two are.my sister and I are the same, sometimes she will borrow something from me and then wear it in a way I never would have thought it! I love it.

My favourite looks on you would be February, that bag is so cool. Cath looks great in October too, very rock and roll!

    Happy New Year!

  2. You two are so gorgeous, and it’s fun to see your style evolve over the course of the year. Can’t wait to see what 2010 has in store for you. Happy new year!!

  3. I really appreciated your Rodarte review a few posts back & I think my favorite outfit is also the February outfit! Something about high waisted pencil skirts–they sound scary but always look so flattering. But all of these outfits are wonderful!

  4. Oh, I love the outfit medley:-) Must say I love some of the “classy” looks, but I adore the cut of jeans shorts. I don’t think I can stop myself this summer:-)

  5. love every month, espero que este año cumplan todos sus sueños, and be happy, sorry for the spanish but im not good in translating right now ;s

  6. Loved looking at the split screen pics! You two are so cute. My fav look for you both was actually Feb.! And I think your style is more along the lines of being eclectic! 🙂

Sending you and Cath best wishes for an amazing 2010! And no, I’m def. not over faux fur!

    xo, Becs

  7. Oh I really love your December scarfy looks!

I’m so into leopard spots at the moment lol, I hope they’ll be in fashion for a while more:)

    Happy new year, Asian Cajuns!!

  8. Hi gals-you both look so chic and stylish, thanks for sharing this review, very inspirational!! My fave look at the moment is leggings, over the knee boots, jumpers and faux fur, I’m dressing for style and cosiness!! Have a great 2010 too!

  9. Lauren – my fav look with you is November, you are so chic:) Love the grey blazer! Cath – October is def your month, you look like you are ready to walk down the runway! LOVE your tips, keep it up! Love yaaa!

  10. oh this was such a fun post! i could never pick a favorite look.because all of the looks the two of you put together are utterly amazing!
i’ll have to keep a look out for cath on the streets today.

  11. I love the summary of your fashions. side by side one can see your unique style.
I don’t know how I’ve missed your last posts (I’ll blame the computer) but somehow I did so I just caught up. Um, your $1.60 score? My heart honestly quickened for you. And that sounds like a romance novel. I mean it in a fellow thrift shopper understanding the feeling of an amazing find kind of way.

  12. Oooh this was such a fun post! I’m so looking forward to warmer days as well!!

And random, but I just realized that I have the same setup with the sofa and shelving in my living room (as in your old? apartment). Haha how funny!

  13. i love both of you and your sister’s styles but i tend to gravitate to yours more, Lauren! i love your may and ausgust outfit especially!
can’t wait for what 2010 has to offer fahion-wise.i’m so over everything already.well maybe not Alexander Wang 😛

  14. What a great post! Look at you two all wrapped up in 12 months! Can’t wait to see what fabulous things you’ll come up with in 2010.

I think I will embrace the tie dye leggings. Don’t hate me.
    xoxo

  15. I’m so over leggings the way lindsey lohan wears them. If they look like pants, then they rock. If they look like stockings and you can see ankles, I effing hate them under tshirts. They are TIGHTS, not leggings, not pants. Wear them as TIGHTS, and cover up those ankles with socks or knee highs or boots, and throw on a pair of shorts or a skirt with them. Sheesh. So annoying.

I’m also done with body con, studs and exaggerated shoulders. It went in with a bang, and it’s already fizzled. C’mon. 80’s and 90’s were great, but let’s try to embrace some trends with more longevity built into them.

If I can’t foresee myself wearing them five years down the road without getting horribly teased by my husband, I won’t buy it or entertain the idea of wearing it.

I do love years in review, and this one is one of the best I’ve seen so far. I haven’t done mine, but by the time I get along to writing it, it’ll be much too far into 2010. I did a “grateful for a good year” kind of review here, though. Maybe I should just get down and do it.

  16. This is really cool. I’d say your look is pretty consistently cool, right? If I did a year review it’d be the same clothes every time. Leggings are the one thing that probably confused us guys the most this past year or so. Are they pants? Did that girl forget her skirt? Did she plan on going out without pants? Then we had to reconcile those misgivings with the fact that we kind of like them.

Anyways, great post, can’t wait to see what you two have in store for us in 2010
