My, AsianCajun, What Big Shoulders You Have!

I know the big shoulder trend made its first appearance many months ago, but I didn’t give in until last week. Earlier in the summer I tried on a shoulder-padded tee at H&M and I looked like a line backer. My already broad shoulders didn’t need the extra padding. Turns out I just chose the wrong item of clothing! This blazer (from Nasty Gal) is very French Editor chic with just the right touch of football defense – haha! (anyone else sensing a sugar low?)

Are you guys embracing the big shoulder trend? Obviously our lovely Lady Gaga is. (p.s. who’s going to see her Monster Ball Tour? Oo, me! Me! Me!). Of course she makes my jacket look like a boring black blazer with non-existent shoulders. Well, I went pantless for you Gaga, but I won’t go shoulder-full for you just yet.

Are you guys pro-shoulder pads or are you wishing 80s revival would die a quick and painful death?

Oh! And it’s Friday!!! Hope you all have a fabulous, fabulous weekend! Cath and I will be mucking it up with the Wren’s Nest folks, decorating the historic home for the holidays. Come see us on Sunday for The Wren’s Nest Victorian Christmas Party (it’s free – yippee)!

  1. oh how i love lady gaga 🙂 but those shoulder pads on her.haha.always reminding me of frankenstein or something. your blazer however is SO CUTE! i gotta get myself one like that. adorable!!!

  2. I wholeheartedly embrace full-on shoulders.if only because in my head, big shoulders mean smaller ass. take the attention away from the problem areas.haha

  3. I’ve always been pro shoulder pad! I would buy vintage blazers and just keep the shoulder pads in (if they were reasonable of course!) Now that they are coming back of course I am embracing them much more. I stuffed the shoulders of my blazer for my Lady Gaga costume with bubble wrap! It was awesome. I can’t say I’d go as high as she does though. not sure I could pull that one off 😉

  4. I’m totally pro big shoulder. I love hoe they look, and the shape they create. I still don’t find the right one ( and is not abig trend here) But I’m working on that.
I love your blazer, looks very balmain.

    Kisses!!

  5. I’ve been stalking that very SAME blazer at Nasty Gal, but haven’t taken the plunge yet. It’s perfection on you! Embrace big shoulders all the way!

P.S. I have the same broad shoulder thing going on. I look like a serious linebacker in my DL pic, no joke.

  6. I love the exaggerated shoulder look!!! I just got this vintage blazer from a garage sale for only $2 and I’m so excited to wear it!! it’s so totally rockin 80’s, the style and the print!! ha ha but I’ll definitely be modernizing it. 🙂 I’m also thinking of a fun DIY project for some sequin shoulders on an old sweater top. I can’t wait to try it out.

Hope you’re having a fabulous weekend Lar! Take care girlie.

  7. NO this 80s revival MUST GO ON! (never thought I’d say that, but as long as nobody is crimping their hair and doing stripper dances to cherry pie then its all good) I still have blazers and LOTS of sequins on my mind!!!

  8. Which one are you going to??? I have tickets for Tuesday night. I am planning a get together with another blogger friend. We can make it a blogger meetup date night!

  9. ha! I have a similar velvet blazer, also from nasty gal, but have yet to sport it. so fantastic though! and that one looks amazing on you of course.

  10. I absolutely love that first photo! You look amazing. And yes, I do love the shoulder pads. But GAGA.um, just a reminder that too much of a good thing isn’t always a good thing. Whoa Nelly!

  11. No, I don’t think I could ever do large shoulders. It’s stinky when you’re small, because anything overly exaggerated just has the tendency to make you look even smaller! You two know what I’m talking about.

I even want a breast reduction because it makes me look weird.

  12. Oh yes, this is perfection! I debated whether to get this blazer too but it was available after I had already gotten the velvet one from Nasty Gal. (Can’t afford two!)

Though it’s black and white, your eye makeup looks good in the first pic!

    xo, Becs
