Animales and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Hello Dearest Readers!

Lar and her bf invited me and my bf over for Sunday dinner: roasted chicken, black eyed peas, collards and mashed sweet potatoes. And like all great Sunday dinners, this one ended in us wearing animal masks. That’s Lar in the tiger mask and me as a Zebra (just in case you couldn’t tell).

Wheatie wore his best GoldenDoodle mask:

I have no idea why Lar is laughing at me here. I mean, my zebra mask goes perfectly with my outfit: gray motorcycle sweatshirt from Walmart, H&M black turtleneck, Blank jeans and suede boots from Newport News years ago.

Lar is wearing her bf’s H&M shirt, thrifted belt, Blank cords and boots from Tarjay.

Our parents are hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for 23, so we’ll be swamped this week with table settings, menu planning, Thanksgiving decorating, turkey and Peking duck preparing, and lots of last minute food shopping.

If we don’t get a chance to blog before Thursday, we hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Local Love

One of the best things about blogging is getting to meet so many talented people in the Atlanta area. Lar and I have been following Atlanta’s  2secondFloor blog for a while now and were so chuffed when Mr. B3rtrand asked to do a feature on us. Not only is he super sweet, we had a fun afternoon taking pics with him at my apartment a few weeks ago. Check out the whole post here.

I’ve been meaning to give this shout-out for the past month: In the November issue of Atlanta Magazine Fidie Ramli includes AsianCajuns as one of her inspirations. Thank you Fidie!!

And last, but not least, June Shin and Jessica Swift’s collaboration that we mention on here is officially on line! Boys, this is your Christmas shopping done. You can thank us later:

9 to 5

Lar and I have figured out that if we meet up after work, we can manage to get a few outfit photos in for the blog.  I was working late today so she came to visit me at my office.

I love Lar’s color combination of red and turquoise – gorgeous! Her dress is from Ramona West, Old Navy cardi, J. Crew belt and Frye boots.

She found this awesome clutch at a second-hand shop in North Georgia. I think it’s the perfect over-sized clutch.

I started the day out with my nude pumps, but I had a couple of errands during the work day so the chuck-t’s came out. The sweater is from J.Crew (ages ago), the scarf was picked up in Egypt by my lovely friend Ali, Michele watch and Gap pants that are supposedly “cropped” pants. . . hmmmm. . . .

Hope you guys are having a good week. Mine has gotten much better now that I have the GRE behind me ( I took it on Monday and have been studying like a mad woman) and Lar came over to, er, help me at the office.

The Professionals

Lar is a graphic designer and I’m a municipal government worker. We almost never have to wear suits to work, but we try to keep some level of professionalism with our office wear.

On Lar: secondhand jacket, Blank cords and Frye boots.
On me: H&M cardi, silk tank from Jac Boutique, Alexandar McQueen for Target pants, Dolce Vita shoes.

Here’s how we would react if you told us that we’d have to wear a suit with pantyhose and pumps to work.

Halloween has come and gone. Bring on the holiday season! Lar and I are buying each other the same pair of booties for Christmas, but I’ll save that for another post 🙂

My Topshop Jacket

levitra her explanation

When Lar and I studied in Scotland years ago we did a lot of shopping at Topshop, but for some reason, since returning to the states, I’ve never bought anything from Topshop.com. I have no idea why, but Lar revived my love for Topshop when she came back from her trip to Scotland last month with this gorgeous jacket for me.

Outfit details: Cassius sunglasses, Topshop jacket, H&M shirt and pencil skirt, shoes from Eviva Boutique, bag from Vivid boutique and necklace from Salon Red in Decatur.

Here are the other wonderful gifts Lar got me from Scotland:

Alice Temperley striped tote, Tunnock’s tea cakes, Tunnock’s tea cake tote, Scottish blend tea and a flapjack.

Back From L.A.

Ever since I started dating my bf he’s tried to convince me that L.A. is a great city. Whenever he’d talk about L.A. I’d usually role my eyes, snort and saying something like, “Yeah, a great city if you love urban sprawl and plastic.” He finally convinced me to take a trip with him this fall and I will totally admit that my bias against the city couldn’t have been more wrong.

Why did I love my L.A. trip so much? It could have been the fact that my bf knew every amazing restaurant in town or that the weather was heavenly compared to our never ending Atlanta summer or that everyone I met was incredibly nice and unpretentious. Highlights included tandem bike riding along the beach in Santa Monica, shopping along Melrose and eating the best sushi of my life.

I’ll be posting a few more photos from the trip in the next week and will be doing a postcard series on Danapop just like Lar’s Scotland postcards. A big thanks to Lar for keeping up with AsianCajuns – I missed you!

Atlanta’s New Ann Taylor

Last Friday I was invited to the opening of Atlanta’s new concept Ann Taylor store at Lenox Mall. I was curious to see how Ann Taylor would update its look. I’ve always liked the classic, ladylike quality of Ann Taylor clothing and was worried that the new concept store would end up looking like a J. Crew copycat (sequins on wool cardigans, desert boots worn with velvet dresses, sparkly brooches on denim jackets etc.).

Turns out there was no need to worry. The store is like a more glamorous, more feminine version of the old Ann Taylor. The same great work clothes and wedding-appropriate dresses are still there, but with a bit more flair.

The store had quite a few pearly and sparkly bobbles that were reasonably priced. I was tempted to buy one of the bracelets.

Instead, I took the practical route and bought a pair of black stretchy pants! The pants are like jeggins, but with a bit more heft. The store handed out these cute little tote bags with a sketch on it that says Ann Hearts Atlanta.

Don’t forget Atlanta readers, until Sept. 5 you can get a 20% discount at the new store by saying “There’s a new Ann in town” at checkout. Let me know what you think of it!

Another Little Black Dress

The Little Black Dress Experiment is coming to a close – I can’t believe August is already over! I’ve loved checking out how the 30 bloggers styled their Ann Taylor dresses.

On a side note, the grainy Mac photo booth photos are due to the fact that neither Lar or my bf were around to take my picture the other day. Thanks for bearing with me!

Before the Little Black Dress Experiment officially ends, I wanted to share two of the sponsor gifts that we received for participating in the project.

Gift #1: Hard Night Good Morning daytime moisturizer (pictured in the center on my bathroom shelf). I’m not a big beauty product junkie, but I have to admit that I love this stuff. It smells good, isn’t greasy and has SPF 20.

Gift #2: Michele Watch. I’m a sucker for watches and I don’t even need them. I have about 3 watches that I’ll wear even though their batteries are dead and I rely on my cell phone to tell the time. I just love how watches can make an outfit look so dapper. I’m sure you’ll be seeing me wearing this watch in many upcoming outfit posts.

The other day I wore my Michele watch with a dress and belt from H&M and Biviel shoes from Eviva. The best part about this dress is that it’s a knit material so I don’t ever have to iron it. I pack it every time I have to go to a work conference.

Hope you all are having a good start to the week. The Decatur Book Festival is coming up this weekend – I can’t wait!

Stuff That Makes Me Happy

As I’m writing this Lar and her bf are flying across the Atlantic to Scotland – my favorite place on earth. They’ll be meeting up with friends and staying in a cottage on the west coast north of Glasgow and finishing their trip in Edinburgh. Not only am I insanely jealous, I also already miss Lar like crazy.

To distract myself I’ve decided to focus on some fun stuff.

1.) AsianCajun playlist on Songza!
Songza is like Pandora and every social media site all rolled into one. You can create a playlist and then friends can add their own songs to it.  Listen to the AsianCajuns Songza Playlist and add your favorites to our hodge podge of songs. I’m obsessed with this site and listen to it at work all the time now.

2.) New Ann Taylor Concept Store in Atlanta
In honor of the store opening, our Atlanta readers will receive a 20% discount at the new Lenox mall store when they say “There’s a new Ann in town” at checkout. The deal ends on Sept. 5. Make sure you get over there – I’ll be visiting tomorrow!

3.) Atlanta Bocce Ball!
The inaugural season of the Atlanta Bocce League starts Sept. 15 and continues every Wednesday night at Piedmont Park. It’s a co-ed league with league bars and drink specials every week. On top of all that, Whynatte and Esperanza, two of our favorite local companies, are league partners.

4.)Imogene + Willie
I’m trying to figure out when I can make a special trip to Nashville just to check out Imogene + Willie. The store sells the designers’ premium denim (they suggest washing denim in the tub or a creek) and other lovely Americana items, like vintage cowboy boots, in a beautifully retro-fitted gas station. I love the videos on their website including this one:
