My Favorite Restaurant in Edinburgh

‘Tis not the fanciest restaurants nor Michelin starred, but Spoon is by far my favorite place to eat in Edinburgh. It’s not crazy expensive, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, the wait staff uber-friendly (but not in a cheesey, b.s.-y way). and the food! Delicious and nutritious (lots of veggie and gluten free options)!

Isn’t it sweet? It’s homey without being too “done” and sugary sweet looking. It’s what I want my home to feel like (and smell like). It also happens to have great views of Nicholson street because it’s up on the second floor (first floor in British) of a lovely old building.

Here’s what we ate:
(p.s. Cullen skink is a savory, aromatic smoked fish soup — kind of like clam chowder)

And this is why we went:

My husbando just found out that one of his papers will be published soon — and (sorry for the mushy cheese) I am so very proud of him!

When you guys come and visit, I’ll take you to Spoon — just let me know when ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. I’m with Diane – now I’m starving for some yummy foods from Spoon. I can’t wait to go with you! I love the decor. I wish I could think of clever designs like that! And the food looks amazing.

Congrats to Matt!!!! I noticed you are now using “husbando” like Artemis on Junkaholique. Love it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Seriously only 27 more days!?!?!?! I’m so excited I could jump out of my skin!

  2. Congrats to Matteo! That’s a huge accomplishment.

Your description of your favourite eatery reminds me of the brunch place that the boy and I frequent. Sometimes places that serve wholesome, tasty food in an unpretentious setting are the best, aren’t they?

  3. How awesome that Matt is going to be published, congrats to him! BTW you look so very cute for your healthy dinner out. That restaurant looks seriously yummy.

  4. I went there! I had the best homemade ginger ale/ ginger soda with real sliced ginger and lime juice. So good! I loved the atmosphere of the place. So fun and light and happy. I believe that’s another favorite writing place of JK Rowling (although back then it wasn’t Spoon.), right?

    And congrats to the Husbando!

  5. Definitely congrats to the hubby! Its such a big deal getting papers published, especially if you’re planning to make a career in academia. And this restaurant!!! I need to keep it in mind if I ever get to Edinburgh. I agree completely with how you describe the decor; the wallpaper is my particular favourite.

  6. You’re allowed to be all mushy when it comes to the husband, he deserves it! Well done! And now you have me craving cullen skink.

  7. I’m a dessert person and this brownie looks oh so good. If I ever get to Edinburgh, I’ll have to try this place out. Congrats to the hubby for getting a paper published!!!!!
