Lar’s Four Eyes

I’m nearly legally blind without my goggles on. I much prefer my contacts, but during the spring and summer in Atlanta there is some allergen in the air that makes my eyes and contacts kung fu each other.

I know frames are trendy now, but no matter how popular they become, I won’t like glasses on me (love them on other people though). The pair I wear now are my favorite ever because they are almost non-existent. But they don’t fool me. I can still see you, you skinny feather-weight-ified frames that constantly slip down my nose and make going down stairs tricky (fuzzy peripheral vision sucks). I want to rip them of my face and stomp them into little shards – except my foot would probably miss the glasses because I wouldn’t be able to see the darn things. Damn you, lack of depth perception!

Anywhoddle, I usually take the things off before I take a photo: 1) because I’m vain (and don’t like the way they look on moi) and 2) there’s a glare issue. Both bad reason. So I figured I’d keep them on this go round.

(See how the photo below is fuzzy? I wish my eyes were that good without my glasses!)

These made up for the glasses today:

On Lar: DIY cut-up thrifted man’s shirt • Citizens of Humanity skirt • Madewell necklace • Silvia Tcherassi for Payless shoes

p.s. Thank you guys for all the sweet comments on the last post! It truly made me think, maybe I can do more of this. Xoxoxo, Lar

  1. I’m the exact same way! I can’t see without my glasses, but I have something against wearing them in public, so I just suck it up and deal with the allergies and contacts 🙁 Not fun.

    Those heels are awesome!

  2. Those shoes are amazing, I might have to go get some. I have the same hate/hate relationship with my glasses and contacts. In the weather, my eyes are watering and there is a lot of popping contacts out and putting them in my mouth (I know you’ve done it, don’t lie) and putting them back in and then giving up and putting on glasses. Ugh.

  3. I think glasses make everyone look a little more adorably bookish. You should embrace your frames! BTW, that is an awesome DIY shirt, I have a similar one I did not DIY but bought in China.

  4. And don’t you just hate the blind spots on the side of the frame? I hate that. Messes me up especially when I’m driving. I was also legally blind — um, yeah, I can only see the big yet fuzzy E on the very top of eye charts. But I was lucky enough to get my eyes fixed a few years ago to 20/20 vision. Oh the joy of having to see the time on the alarm clock when you wake up is priceless.

  5. Heeheehee, I love the little bit about contact/eye kung fu. I started wearing glasses last fall. After 25 years, all that reading finally caught up with my eyes. I happen to like how I look with glasses, but they make my skin break out, I’m convinced. I apparently can’t wear contacts because I read too much, but I’d like to get my mitts on some colored ones!

  6. I think the glasses look great on you! But what do I know, I’m one of these weirdos who would go into a store and have tons of fun trying on different frames–and that was even before I actually *needed* glasses. 🙂

  7. I honestly do believe you can style for a living. I mean, you actually have inspirations and what not! I agree you should and could do this professionally. Maybe look into it.

I love your glasses. We Four Eyes need to stick together.

  8. You look SO CUTE in those glasses! I love them.

I, too, wear contacts every day and hate when I have to don the glasses. I do like having them as an option, but mostly they make me super self-aware of my face. And if it’s hot out, FORGET IT.

Though, I am on the lookout for an amazingly fantastic turquoise pair. So if you see any, let a girl know. =)

  9. i know what you mean about glasses – i’m the same way. I pretty much never post my blogs with me in them and I prefer to wear sunnies anyways. the thing that bugs me most about having to wear glasses is playing sports is a pain. I have to surf with my contacts in and that means i can’t open my eyes if i go underwater. BLECH.

that said, I do like those glasses on you – very cute. I’ve basically embraced my glasses though and have about 4 different pairs to mix things up.

  10. It’s like you read my mind about the going down stairs thing. Every major spill I have ever had down stairs was when I was wearing glasses. I only take the elevators on days when I wear them at work and my coworkers think I am strange. Then, I offer to let them try on my glasses and they start to understand just how bad my vision is. I love those shoes, too.
