Hello, Lovelies (ladies and gents alike)! Apologies for putting the Outfit of the Week up so late- it’ll be Friday here in five hours! As we’ve mentioned ad nauseum in our posts the last couple of days, we’ve been swamped with work and slowly recovering from our weekend of light debauchery.
So in order to keep things light and airy (while keeping our noses to the grindstone), I decided to use one of my favorite, though not particularly fashion forward, movie characters as outfit inspiration. I present Poppy from “Happy-Go-Lucky.”
Have you guys seen this movie? It’s streaming on Netflix, so if you have a wonderful other half that lets you mooch off his/her account- hop to it (thanks, M!!!).
Now, from the title, this movie might sound a little saccharine, but I swear it’s not. And it’s British, and you know how Cath and I feel about all things British.
To sum up Poppy’s look: lots of color, drapy cardis, lots of plastic bangles, necklaces and earrings, boots and lacy hosiery. It’s not particular trendy or stylish, but it totally captures her effervescent personality.
I toned down the color and the drapyness for work and to fit my own style a little better. It’s a subtle version of Poppy, but it reminded me to “stay happy” (again, not as saccharine as it sounds- try with a british accent) while I muddled through a pile of work.
Uniqlo sweater, H&M tee, Hudson skirt, very, very subtle beige fishnets are from River Island, and the boots are Charlotte Ronson.
I’m a big fan of the back of these boots- self-flagellating leather tassels! Seriously, they whip your calves as you walk-not my favorite thing in the whole world, but they seem to like the fishnets.
If you’ve seen “Happy-Go-Lucky” or will see it soon- let me know what you think! It will make your weekend even if you’ve worked yourself to death the rest of the week.
En-Ra-Ha, everyone 😉
Those boots are so cute!
Very cute indeed. One of my favourites, since those fantastic boots stole my heart.
One of the most lovely of lovely films. The fact that it tackles pretty heavy material, yet remains optimistic.I love it.
And, of course, I love Poppy’s bike. 🙂
those boots are awesome – just love this whole laid back look,
i wish our weather was warm enough to go with no leggings or tights with a skirt. winter has returned with a vengeance.
I haven´t seen the movie but after seeing those pictures I can tell that you nailed the style. Love that cardigan.
xoxo
B* a la Moda
Hi there-a very inspirational outfit, you look lovely!!
I love colourful movies! I remember watching the Dr. Seuss movie and it was fantastic. And I agree with B a la Moda, you got Poppy’s style right on
never seen this film. but i love how youve channeled her style and made it fresh and nice. i especially adore the boots.
hope youll have a fab weekend girls!

I am DROOLING over those boots, lady. Seriously.
lovely look my dear!
and the fishnets.so fab!!!
you look great!! the fishnets are a great touch! today i am wearing my cowboy boots, plaid shirt and jean skirt. we somehow almost match! anyways, how are you loving this warm(er) weather?
I hardly ever seem to watch movies. but whatever inspired this outfit is super cute. The boots um, how amazing are they?
That actress reminds me of Parker Posey for some reason. Sailor stripe shirts are the best. And those boots are sweet. Makes me think of moccasins with the tabs to sweep away footprints.
Kyrgyzstan? Sounds awesome!
Great outfit! You’ve definitely channeled Poppy’s style in a way that really suits you. Well done.
I definitely need to watch this movie. I need an infusion of happy/charmy/lucky/positive colour and vibes to get through the dreary transitional phase that victimizes us up here in the North. Michigan has MISERABLE weather!
Ooh, the fishnets and boots really do look great together 🙂
I love Poppy! Great movie and great inspiration for you ladies!
I love that your books are organized by color. That’s awesome.
love how you look, great inspiration.
And yes, that boots are awesome.
KIsses!
You look fabulous in this bright blue colour. Nothing makes me feel better during a drab Monday workday than wearing bright things. And Happy Go Lucky is such a crackup! My favourite is her Tango teacher. But the way her driving instructor flips out on her gives me the chills every time 🙁
Those boots ROCK! 🙂 Such a cool outfit
Scott would so not be happy with the boots, so not En-Ra-Ha.
Love the Charlotte Ronson boots and blue and white stripes! I haven’t seen the film, but Bec really wanted to see it after we saw her at the Oscars! Hope you ladies are well! Can you both make it to my slumber party? Hope so! xo, mel
I also adore all things British so this sounds right up my alley 🙂 I haven’t watched many films lately but now that I have all the time in the worldMAYBE I SHOULD START! There’s an idea 🙂
BTW that blue cardigan is stunning – I love that shade, never shopped at Uniqlo though. Should I Start?
LUSTY
I’m British and I’ve not seen this! Seems as though I really must! I love the colour in your outfit, ahh the stripes, the blue, the red in that little bangle!
Also ADORE that your bookshelf is colour coded!
I did see the movie but didn’t really like it. Something about it just didn’t work. But I did remember an urge to wear uber bright clothes after watching it. I love your take and you book shelf! I’v arranged mine in a similar rainbow order. I spy Harry Potter.
Oh cool! Thanks for the movie review! I’ll add it to our Netflix queue!
ive never seen this movie, but i’m intrigued! the vibrant colors of the clothing makes me happy lol i love how u channel the look above and those boots are awesome!
