Five years ago Lar and I studied abroad in Edinburgh for six months after spending four months in Murcia, Spain. Spain was good, Scotland was amazing. After six months we didn’t want to leave and all of our close friends know that if you get us started talking about Scotland, we won’t ever stop. We love everything and anything Scottish – even haggis.
So my boyfriend was super excited to show me this commercial for Johnnie Walker whiskey because it’s pretty much as Scottish as it gets – it’s about Scottish whiskey, set in the Highlands and starring Robert Carlyle (any Hamish MacBeth fans out there? woot, woot!). Even if you’re not a Scottish-ophile, you need to watch this video. It’s brilliant and five and half minutes of one single shot.
Who else thinks Carlyle’s outfit is perfection? Classic, rugged and those hats are fantastic!
Want to see what Lar and I looked like five years ago? Here are a couple of photos from our time in Scotland.
Me and Lar with a friend in the highlands on an unusually sunny day.
Wearing University of Edinburgh sweatshirts on the beach in June.
Exploring one of the many, many castles we visited.
Even in the spring and summer months we had to embrace layering. Lar was all about her puffy vests and hoodies.
I’d love to visit Scotland and explore it in more detail, looks like you had a fab time!!
Aww lucky girls! My friend is going to Med school out there and I desperately want to visit! Amazing photos!
ooo scotland is so pretty. my parents went there a few years back and the photos they took were so beautiful. i really have to go some day just to see the castles alone!
I’ve only spent a few days in Scotland, but I MISS IT. I’m pretty sure it’s the best place on earth.
You two are so adorable in those photos!
I went to Scotland once and loved it! I would definitely go back.
Yay for old school pics! These are great and you both look so cute.
And yes, I love the ruggedness of Carlyle’s outfit!
xoxo, Becs

P.S. I tagged you girls in my blog. 🙂
Scotland seems like an amazing place! I’d love to go someday.
I want to go to there.
everyone should have a little tweed in their life.
hiya!!1 love love the blog and the happy energy!
And this is such an coincident as I just did a post about my past (but mine was over 10 years ago, haha!!!) – don’t you just love the times when we were all using actual analog camera?? – xx
When I graduated from high school, I went on a bicycle trip all over England and Scotland. I vaguely remember Edinborough castle sitting up on a hill. I think that might have been the place where there was confusion over our hostel reservations, and we ended up sleeping on a freezing church floor with no sleeping bags or anything. Even though it was in June, we all bought wool sweaters and mittens and wore them!
Scotland looks beautiful. I understand why you guys enjoyed so much.
The commercial is amazing.
Kisses!!!
Wow! Great pictures. Scotland look so amazingly beautiful! I want to go there one day so lovely and that commericial is genius I watched it like 4 times!! 🙂
Love & Aloha
That is one place I’ve always wanted to go! Great photos 🙂
Gosh I miss traveling!! I would love to go to Scotland. It sounds amazing 🙂
I’m so sad! I left you girls a BIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG comment yesterday and it isn’t here!
Anyway, the gist of it is, I love you for going there. iwish I could too. My husband’s non-asian half heritage is from the Isle of Egg in Scotland. We got married in a Scottish castle in Victoria, BC so I love Scots and castles. 🙂
For Lar, you graphic design-phile, you: check out Talisker Whiskey’s website. It has all the beauty and grandeur of the Scottish landscape, with the benefit of being one truly well-designed site!
