An AsianCajun Halloween

header_ac_style

At the moment I’m snuggled up in bed feeling a little under the weather (boohiss), but I’m totally optimistic that by this time tomorrow I will feel 100%. I’ll be putting the finishing touches on my costume while scarfing down handfuls of candy corn.

And anyways, I can’t be sick because I don’t think Cath and I have missed a Halloween together- ever. Back in the day we used to always dress up as the same thing (except when we were 5; Cath was Super Woman and I was Wonder Woman). In recent years we’ve mixed it up a bit and done less of the twin thing (twin Dorothys might have been cute back in the day, now it would just be a little creepy in the wrong way).

Two years ago I was Amy Winehouse and Cath was Frida.

Last year I went as a vampire and Cath was Pocahontas.

This year, I’m going as Lady Gaga and Cath will be Yoko Ono.

I kid you not, Cath and I based our costumes this year (and most years) on what we have in our closets. Cath had to buy a black Yoko wig (Yoko does not have Cath’s bangs) and I had to buy a Gaga wig, but other than that we are both set. I’m not sure what that says about my closet/fashion sense that I didn’t have to shop for fishnets, thigh highs or numerous leotards, but there you have it.

Oh! And Happy Pride!!! Woo-hooo!!! We’re going to try to make it to the ATL Pride Parade on Sunday.

We hope you have a very happy Halloween, readers! What are you going to be/do?

  1. I’m going to be a stressed out wife trying to nurse her husband back to health and my husband is going to be someone sick with the flu. Free costumes, cost us nothing but his health.

    1. Great choice, Lain! Good luck walking around on those skates all night. Are you bringing along the lead pipe?

  2. Ooh, great costumes! I love the idea of going as Yoko. I’m leaning towards Where’s Waldo, and I’m still pestering Joe to be the Dude from the Big Lebowski, but no solid plans yet.

  3. great!!
In youtube you can find great tutorial for a lady gaga make up.
I wanna see your costumes later!

this year i’m putting the idea of costumes aside since i’m having some friends come up and heading out to a concert! yay!

  6. Adorable! I can’t wait to see how you guys put this whole thing together. I’m going as George Michael this year — we’ll see how convincing I can be at recreating 5 o’clock shadow.

  7. Basing your Halloween costume on what you already own is such a smart and creative thing to do! I hope you get well soon so you can continue the tradition of celebrating this holiday with your sister.

  8. I hope you feel better , I can’t wait to see pics. You guys are so talented. This is my first year dressing up and I am going to be Pocahontas lol.

  9. I’m going to two parties and tonight I am Lady Gaga as well (hmmm. fashion blogger much?). But I am not going bottomless, these thighs don’t do that. Can’t wait to see the outcome.

  10. You know I can’t wait to see your costume pics. Wait, I also only bought a wig and had everything else in my closet hmmm. πŸ™‚

BTW, did your parents dress you and Cath up as pairs when you were young like Mel and I were Mickey and Minnie, Raggedy Ann and Andy, Little Bo Peep and the Sheep, etc.

    Have fun this weekend!

    xo, Becs

  11. I can’t wait to see how you guys do Gaga and Yoko. I’m really excited!! (Note: I never use multiple exclamation marks in a row — so this is legit excitement!)

  12. Haha, love the costume roundup! Can’t wait to see this year’s, either.

My costume isn’t too exciting, but I blame that on Hong Kong (non-Americans just wouldn’t get my references). I will definitely be partying it up though. Have a great one and feel better!

  13. Wow you two go all out! I actually haven’t dressed up for Halloween in a while.but yes, here in the bamboo forest there will be a murder mystery party at The Lodge. 1920s theme. I don’t know what it says that I had packed gear that would be apropos for the theme. I’m a blackjack dealer for the party.

ps. Actually I was surprised at how tiny Ms. Stewart was! And she cracked jokes about being ‘inside’ with us.

  14. Oh I can’t wait to see your photos of your night! You guys will look incredible I’m sure πŸ™‚

Thanks for the lovely comment on my blog. I’m the same as you when it comes to stress. I don’t see it coming at all and then I make myself ill.but I had a relaxing few days and I am definitely so much better for it! πŸ™‚
