Greek Fisherman’s Hat

Of all the different cultures/ethnicities that swirl in our AsianCajun blood, Greek (sadly) is not one of the mix. Our best friend when we were young was Greek Orthodox, so we had our fair share of loukoumades at Greek festivals, but I don’t think that even gets us an honorary membership in the Greek club. I’ve also never fished or actually been to Greece (a girl can dream.), so this hat is a lie. A little lie . a baby lie. all worth it because who doesn’t like a good, jaunty cap perched on their tête, huh?

I’ve eyed these on some lovely Swedish bloggers and wondered where I could nab one. Instead of doing something sensible like search the interwebs, I moaned and complained until I stumbled into a hat shop off Jackson Square in NOLA that sold these.

This man (below) can both fish and read the sign behind him. He wears that hat with a clean conscience. I bet he likes loukoumades too. Swoon.

  1. Lar, that’s a great hat on you! Greece is my dream too, somehow it looks too beautiful to be true!

Oh, and I’ve added your site to my blog roll:) I have no idea how I could have neglected to do it for so long!

  2. Sadly my half Greek blood is not enough to help me pull off that hat – but I can read the sign: sweets & cocktails – yum!

  3. O I could stuff my face all day with loukoumades. Gahhhh! My friend had an obsession with these hats. She called it her train driver hat and went around pretending to pull steam chains and shouting “Choo choO!”

  4. That hat is the bee’s knees. The anchor detail and braiding are key. And don’t listen to everyone, fishing’s totally not overrated; it’s just an excuse to sit in a boat/on the shore and drink beers with your budddies. No one really catches anything anyway.

  5. Heehee, I love it. And yes, I believe participating in Greek Festivals must surely count for something! As does the gorging on all things Greek and delicious!
