First off, sorry for the crappy quality of the photos. I’m at a conference in Milwaukee and didn’t even think to bring a camera – my phone camera will have to do.
I usually try to dress professionally for conferences, but I think I’ve been slightly overdressed for this one – especially my four inch heel pumps. I hate flats, but I’m thinking I should invest in a pair of ballet flats for times like these. Exploring a new city is a little more slow going when I’m trying to (unsuccessfully) power walk in high heels.
H&M dress and BCBG pumps.
I was impressed with the bags that the conference has provided for all the attendees. Usually you get a basic tote or paper bag, but this is a decent messenger bag. I’ve been using it non-stop all weekend.
This is my first time in Milwaukee and although I’m not a fan of Miller (I’ve kept that under wraps here), I’ve been really impressed with the city. It’s very pedestrian friendly, the weather is perfect this time of year, there’s a beautiful river running right down the middle and there is some awesome late 19th century architecture downtown.
Saturday, I took a trek over to a recently redeveloped neighborhood and found some cool shops. I went totally practical and wore comfortable shoes, which is very rare for me!
Hot Pop was one of the best shops I found. It’s a shop/gallery/design space. I bought Lar a scarf there, but I don’t want to show it on the blog until I’ve given it to her.
A lot of the buildings have detailed carvings on the front. These faces are some of my favorite.
For some reason I just really liked the giant Obey sign and pink doors.
Today I walked up to East Brady Street to check out the historic homes and funky shops. I stopped by a cute coffee shop that smelled like patchouli and incense – not my favorite scent, but it was still fun. Tonight I’ll head over to the lake and check out the art museum. I can’t wait!
thank you!! enjoy milwaukee
Aww it looks like you had fun and got a sweet bag to boot! I like your professional look!!! You make professional look tres chic! 🙂
Have fun!
The bag is very cute, I like it.
And I love your pumps!
I have to buy some flats too, because I just have heels and converse.
Kisses!
Dont sleep on my hometown! LOL
love the fringe!!
those pumps are hot!!!
your professional look is hot – keep it up i say
wow that was so much fun ! and nice outfit 🙂
Not even a High Life fan? I’ve been to Milwaukee once-I even spent some time in that Borders. I have a feeling the midwest is a tad different than D.C. and the A.
AwMilwaukee is my hometown. I am feeling incredibly homesick seeing your photos esp in the Third Ward. Walk through Public Market, eat at Coquette Cafe, and definitely go to the art museum.
Be sure to head over to Shoo for some gorgeous footwear ogling. It’s in the Third Ward: http://www.shoostore.com/ Tell Kate I sent ya!
i’ve never been but i love seeing pics of new cities. cool.
I think your conference outfit is so chic.
You look great! Love your bangs. 😉
u got banged! i love the new bang look on ya! and your outfits are all very nice!
I think I harbour slight jealousy towards people who say 4 inch heels aren’t fun to sight see in.cuz I can’t even STAND in 4 inches, let alone walk!! That said, when I go out these days and my trusty, impossibly high (to me) three inchers start to hurt I am always grateful for the ballet pumps in my purse 😛
I am now convinced that I have to go to H&M immediately. seems they have the best stuff right now!

your dress is so greatwhat a fun trip! oooh, and I love your hair!
Hot Pop looks exciting. I spy a white bike in the window. Was that for sale, too?
Hi there! You look great in that dressplus your hair is so gorgeous!
I actually really like the photo in the dressing room, simple yet artistic! Love the dress with pumps
great bangs. and i love you in blue-fantastic colour for you!
The thing I like about Midwest Great Lake cities with ports, is that they have so much character and a rich history that towns I grew up in (San Diego) just don’t have. While Milwaukee is a much smaller town than Detroit, it’s probably much more walking/shopping/site seeing friendly. there’s not much in terms of shopping/tourism in downtown Detroit. Just clubs and food. After dark, there isn’t much of a tourism industry other than errant bums who wandered in from the surrounding neighbourhoods.
I love your professional look. Better to overdress for office happenings than underdress!
I’ve never been to Milwaukee, but looks like a great city. The architecture is really outstanding on those buildings. Thanks for sharing your mini walking tour!
xo, Becs
Could you tell me where this is exactly?! I’d love to shoot here this week. Thanks!
