Trying on the Prabal Gurung for Target Collection

You know you’re a fashion addict when you wake up at 7:00 am on a Sunday morning to check out a new line at Target and end up spending almost half of your monthly grocery budget on a dress and a pair of shoes (my LearnVest financial planner will be so disappointed!). But it was all worth being able to check out the new Prabal Gurung line with my friend Meredith – and about seven other women waiting for Target to open at 8:00 this morning.

I picked out seven items to try out and wanted to take home almost every piece, but I couldn’t very well spend all of my grocery money so I ended up going home with only my absolutely favorite pieces. I’m hoping some of the items I liked won’t sell out and will eventually go on sale. Wishful thinking, I know!

Prabal Gurung for Target sweatshirt

I loved the sweatshirt in the First Date Print, but figured it wasn’t as versatile as a dress. It would look really cute with black shorts in the spring though. Hmmm.I suppose I could always go back to the store or buy it online.

I was convinced before trying on everything that this was the dress that I was going to purchase. While I really like the shape and design, the jersey dress (a few photos below) won out because it was so comfortable.

I’m really hoping this top and skirt don’t sell out. Both pieces would be perfect for work (worn separate, of course).

I loved the blues of this sweater, but it was slightly too long for me – it’s also pretty think so I wouldn’t buy it for layering over shirts.

So what did I end up with? This drop waist, jersey dress and heels below.

I was so excited about the shoes that I immediately came home and changed my outfit so I could wear them. It’s a little chilly and rainy in Atlanta to be wearing open-toed shoes, but why not?! It’s nice to have a little pop of color in the dead of winter.

I’m going to wear my new Prabal Gurung dress to the Polish Me Pretty Party next week. Do you live in the Atlanta area? You should come! For details, check out the previous post.

Dearest Lar,

After missing your twin sister, not having a Target in your country should be a top reason to not stay in the UK. Just saying 😉 True you have Primark, Selfridges, Office, etc. but there’s just something so wonderful about Target – and not just the designer collabs. It’s a big box chain store, but it has so many fun items and you can buy your groceries and designer (collaboration) clothes all under one roof. But you know all of that already

So glad we had a Skype date yesterday – I wish we could talk everyday!

xoxo, Cath

  1. i love the prints of this collection! a lot more color than i’m used to wearing.but i love it! and i’m so jealous that you can wear those shoes already. how i wish nyc had atlanta weather. it’s so cold here.

  2. Did they have the sweater you show here in the yellow (sulphur) color? I ordered online (naturally up late anyway, so why not?). That is the one piece I’m wary I may have misjudged. it looks like it’s yellow-er than the sulphur skirt and dress in the online pics (more of a true yellow than a green-yellow). Did you get a look at in person?

Props on the self-control, btw. Woo money for food!

  3. LOVE the neon yellow shoes. thanks to you I headed to Target before I could even put a bra on. The clothes were cute, but didn’t fit me well. That third photo with the dress was also my fav and if I had the energy to get a different size I probably would’ve gone home with it. Instead, I ended up in the home section and am now redecorating my apartment with a new turquoise color.

PS this may be the longest reply i’ve ever left to a blog post ha!

  4. Cath, the dress you ended up buying is the one piece I tried on! I loved the drop waist. And I am so jealous your Target had those 2-strap shoes!! Mine did not. Good choices 🙂

  5. So, so glad you did this post (and you look adorable)!! I was online at 12:10am that morning because I knew I wasn’t going to make it into the store! Got the First Date print in the sweater, dress and sleeveless top and the yellow pointy flats and red wedges. I cringed at my total, but I figured if it didn’t work, then I would just return it to the store. Do you find the sizing pretty spot on?

  6. Awesome!!! I too purchased the drop waist dress!!! It’s so unique. I ordered it online on Target. How did you like the material of it? Was it stretchy material? True to size? I am really tiny so I got it in XS so I hope it will be a good fit!

  7. I was going to buy those same shoes online since they don’t have them at my Target! Would you say they are true to size?

  8. I love that black dress with the flower panel on you! That was my own pick when I first saw the collection online – but ended up buying the same dress that you did. 🙂 IMHO it was the most flattering. Bonus points for comfiness too!

  9. Kitcath, gahhh so wish I could have been there with you and Mere! I love every piece you tried on — even the overly long sweater!
Let me know if you find the dress online, but do not worry about it — my consumer monster gets the best of me when I see these pics.
p.s. I wished I looked that good after just 5 hours of sleep — aren’t we supposed to be twinies?

    1. Larbar! The dress is not available online, but I’ll head over to the local Target before the weekend to see if it’s still available.

      There’s a reason I didn’t have any close-up photos – I wasn’t even wearing make-up – eessh!

  10. They do run true to size. I wear and bought a seven in the two strap heel in sulphur spring, they feel great, if perhaps a small gap at back of heel and I will get some of those pads you place at the back of the heel to prevent minor slippage. But they are light and comfortable.

  11. Cath, I have yet to make it out to view this collection. I am eyeing a skirt and some heels possibly. I love the vibrant colors and you made a great choice w/the jersey dress & heels. I’ll have to look into this event you mentioned!!

  12. Your dressing room pics are supa cute! I like the sweatshirt on you, agree it would look cute with black shorts (& the neon heels), and I like the first dress with the panel in front. I think you picked the best 2 things though. The shoes are to die for! There was only 1 pair left in my size @ my Target by the time I got my lazy ass outta bed and I scooped them up. Yay! I really like them paired with cobalt, as you’ve done here.

  13. Hey! i just wanted to drop a line and say that this line is currently hitting the clearance racks in the brick & mortar stores (at least at my local N. Druid Hills location, I’ll be checking Lenox soon)!

If you had your eyes on something but couldn’t cough up the dough, now is the time!

I pick up this colorblock dress – I love it! http://www.target.com/p/prabal-gurung-for-target-colorblock-dress-dresden-blue/-/A-14330798#?lnk=sc_qi_detaillink

  14. Hi, I have a question about the shoes! I bought the same ones and am having a ton of trouble getting them to stay on not sure what I’m doing wrong with the clasp but if you could tell me how you get them on that would be amazing!I would hate to return them!
    Thanks and love your blog!
