Wide Legs and Fried Chicken

When wearing shorts last summer I received this. er. compliment:

“Mmmm-hmmmm. you’ve got tasty Popeye thighs!!”

I consider this a compliment because 1) I’m sure I would like Popeyes fried chicken a lot (especially with a buttery biscuit and red beans and rice on the side) even if I weren’t part Cajun and 2) by the sound of it, this man liked Popeyes fried chicken maybe even more than me.

The problem? My thighs are what I like to critique the most when I’m in a body image slump. And even if they might look tasty to some, they don’t always do what I want them to do in a pair of shorts or skinny jeans.

So I have a pair of wide-legged jeans for those days when I want my thighs to stand out a little less. Wide-legged pants happen to be trendy at the moment (see above), but I’m gonna keep these in the closet even when the trend passes. Wide-legged pants are there for the days when you want to focus on the fried chicken thighs on your plate instead of your own tasty gams.

P.S. If you guys want to hear any more about my trip to Scotland, I did a guest post for Dana at Dana Pop here (she’s a local Atlanta blogger you guys must read!).

  1. Someone said that to you?! Oh wow, I’m glad that you took it well:) I don’t think I would know how to react. Lar, I think your thighs are just fine in shorts and skirts!:) I’m with ya, though, I’ve been slightly obsessed with wide leg pants. Love my skinny jeans, but gotta mix it up once in awhile:) Thx again for ur comment on my blog. You know, I didn’t know half the celebs on the pink carpet, either. They looked vaguely familiar lol Hope ure enjoying the weekend!

  3. Awww I’ve always loved the concept and thought of wide legged pants, particularly because I’ve got the same thigh issue as you but whenever I try them on, it just looks weird! Meanwhile, you look great in them and there’s nothing better than a piece of clothing that has magical self-esteem restoring powers on those bad bad days.

  4. I really like these jeans on you.
I think my legs are a little too muscular and short for skinnies.
Thank goodness for heels that elongate the legs.

  5. First off, I LOVE the new layout. Secondly, I’d take that as a compliment too, albeit a bit offbeat. I love the look of wide legged jeans on other ladies. I haven’t yet ventured away from my skinnies just yet, but I love that you posted this little inspiration for me!

    xx, becs

  7. You look great against the bookcase (definitely one of my favourite spots for outfit shots on here) loving those wide legged jeans too.

Not sure how I would react to the fried chicken comment.but I know one thing, I adore fried chicken too. So bad but so good!

  8. i don’t think i’d know how to take that- b\c i have a thigh problem too. mine are huge- they’re my #1 enemy in getting a pants fit. pants would probably fit my waist, if i could squeeze my thighs in. ugh. those are adorable!
