Hong Kong Garden

Lar uploaded these photos right before she left for Scotland, but she was so busy packing that she didn’t get a chance to write the post. Hopefully she won’t mind me posting these for her.

Last week when our aunts were in town we did what every respectable Asian American family does on the weekend – we went out for Dim Sum. I can never walk away from a dim sum meal without feeling completely stuffed, but Lar and I decided we had to take outfit photos in the cute little courtyard near the restaurant (I’ll post mine later).

Lar is wearing an American Apparel dress, Moxsie purse, American Eagle boots and I think the belt is from Madewell.

After doing some post-dim sum shopping at the Asian market, we all went to my parents’ house and watched The Joy Luck Club. Then we had Chinese takeout for dinner. I’m not kidding. It’s like we were living an Amy Tan novel for the day. Fun times.

A couple of days later my mom made her amazing shrimp creole to add a little bit of Cajuness back into our lives.

  1. I love that you guys were living in the Joy Luck Club in Atlanta! The boots Lar is wearing are super cute! Love Lar’s photo next to the asian sculpture thing.

  2. Haha, I’ve never read/watched the Joy Luck Club. Lar looks awesome in the red dress and sounds like you had a great time with lots of Chinese dim sum feasting!

  3. i lived in atl/decatur for my entire adult life before moving to boston [too cold, in case you were wondering] but i always have a really fun time playing the “guess where they might be game” with myself. and i thought that i knew most of the dim sum places well but i can’t recognize this one!

also, please allow me to express my envy that lar’s orange funnel neck aa dress is actually an appropriate length to be a dress for her. i had that exact one and it took a lot of self- reflection to recognize that it was merely a longer shirt on me.

    cheers!

    1. I would guess Oriental Pearl? Their ribs in black bean sauce are sooo good, but I usually find myself at Hong Kong Harbour on Cheshire Bridge.

HAHA yeah, I was just about to ask if you were being serious. xD That movie made me cry (???) though I like the book WAY more!

  5. Ooo I love, love dim sum!:) I’ve actually never seen this movie, but I’ve always wanted to read the book. Oh man, I’m so jealous of Lar’s trip, too hehe

  8. I think it’s hilarious how the entire day turned out–so Asian! Maybe Lar had a sixth sense about it in choosing to wear red.it’s a very auspicious colour in Chinese culture!

  9. Lar is so cute. The orange/red is a good look for your complexions. You must miss her dearly.

Our Asian family isn’t so Asian. We have never been to dim sum together and probably never will. Likely because my parents don’t eat seafood. well, neither do I. We grew up eating like Jews (Deuteronomy 5 Diet). LOL.

    XX.
    Mae Lu, thereafterish.
