Scot-o-philes Cont.: Eat Your Haggis!

We know a lot of you aren’t interested in seeing photos of haggis or even hear us babble more about our love for rainy weather and kilts, but we thought you might like a little peak at our Rabbie Burns supper.

Above: Cath and I prepping the neeps (mashed turnips) and tatties (mashed potatoes) in our kitchen. We both had delusions of tartan that we had planned to wear, but realized we didn’t have the funds to spend money on a dress we would wear only once a year. Tartan isn’t the most flattering thing on us. We’re still working on getting our bfs into kilts though ;).

Our fridge fully stocked with one actual Scottish beer and some other Scottish-looking beers. We still have plenty left over. If you’re in our neck of the woods, stop on over for a tipple- we’d love to have you!

Cath made this awesome sketchbook when we lived in Scotland. It’s full of maps (Cath loves maps) and her awesome drawings which are very much like Eric Chase Anderson‘s illustrations (brother to Wes Anderson).

We hope you guys had a wonderful weekend too- full of good food, good friends and rousing bag pipe music!

All photos but the beer photos by Troy Cono. Thanks, Troy, for the delicious meatloaf and the photography!

so sad that last year’s oktoberfest made me never ever want to drink beer again. 🙁

  3. I remember Cath’s sketchbook from Edinburgh! It’s fun to see it again!
I never had the courage to taste real haggis when I was in Scotland, but I tried the vegetarian one : it was OK. That makes a good reason to go back to Scotland!

  4. Girls, I adore your blog, and love your creativity (in entertaining and fashion)! But ya lost me on the haggis– it’s the only thing I’ve ever tried to eat that I absolutely couldn’t get past my gag reflex.tasted it while I was a student in London, and not wanting to be the “ugly American” at a dinner given in our honor, dutifully took a mouthful. I literally couldn’t swallow it! Didn’t make a big production of it, just slipped it into the corner of my napkin, and prayed no one would ask me what I thought. It took many glasses of wine to get that taste out of my mouth. So, needless to say, I think the two of you have MAJOR stones not only to try it, but to eat it!

  5. You guys would make Robert Burns so proud! I’d bet he never even dreamed two stylish twins would be rocking out for his b-day, 200 years after he was dead!

  6. You girls are too fun. My husband would DIE over your Scottish beer section. He hardly ever drinks but when he does, he loves his beer. I’m not a big fan but they sure do look pretty.

I have to applaud you for your consideration of your readers in not posting any photos of haggis. I’m just not one who could keep her wits/stomach about her. 🙂

PS, what plug in do you use for your comments? I’m currently using an Ajax comment back plug-in, but I’m not sure I like it. It has space for avatars, but the spacing is all off. LAUR-would appreciate your professional opinion.

PPS, you’d be proud. My husband N has drafted me into freelancing with him at the design firm, and I’m helping out with CMS and some template design. Learning CSS and XHTML slowly! 🙂

  7. I’ve never tried mashed turnips, you are so good at intriguing me 🙂

Whoa, talk about a stocked fridge!

Cath’s sketchbook looks fabulous and has left me longing for some Walker’s shortbread!

  8. Ooooh fun!

Btw, ladies, Dan and I are under contract on a house 1 mile from downtown Decatur. OOOOH the excitement. Fingers crossed for a clean inspection. 🙂

  9. That looks like a a lot of beer! It’s so much fun having a sister. You can share all the happy times together.
I agree with your decision of the tartan dress. You two look great in whatever you wear, and tartan isn’t essential to the Scot Spirit. Any luck with the BFs and kilts, though? Post pictures.

  10. 1. awesome
    2. i love the kilts comment LOL
    3. that scrapbook/sketchbook is amazing and the cut out of walkers cookies immediately caught my eye—love those things!
    🙂
    xx
