Lunch Break!

Cath mentioned this in the last post, but we’ve been trying to maximize our sister time before I move to Scotland next month. Even though I’m a West Ender now, we both work in Decatur, just about a 5 minute walk apart – yippee! So we try to meet up for lunch at least once a week.

These pics are from last week’s meet-up at Sushi Avenue – nom nom nom. I’m actually a sushi wuss. I only eat uber-americanized pieces like California rolls and crispy shrimp rolls. Cath has much more sophisticated tastes and goes for the raw fish pieces.

Hope you, lovelies, are having a wonderful week! Let us know what you’re up to. My brain has been a bit fuzzy with all this upcoming move stress, so I’m sorry if this is a short babbly post. Any tips for mid-week de-stressing? Happy hump day!

On Cath: thrifted Longchamp bag • H&M tee • Gap skirt and flats • necklace from clothing swap • bracelets from local artisans • Agnes Scott ring

On Lar: Dress worn as top from Creatures of ComfortCitizens of Humanity skirt • necklace from Spotlight Boutique • sandals from Squash Blossom boutique

This Is What I Think of Fridays and Weekends

That’s my “Hey there, Sailor Friday” look. Okay maybe I need to work on it a little as to not scare Friday away, but regardless you get the “I’m excited!” memo.

Cath and I started the weekend early: Thursday for lunch to be exact. We invited our good friend and fellow blogger Eli to come down and try the new No. 246 restaurant in Decatur.

Doesn’t Cath look like she dressed for 246? She looks perfect!

On Cath: Freebie sunnies • Squash Blossom top • Limited skirt • Dolce Vita shoes • thrifted Longchamp bag

On Lar/moi: thrifted blouse (love the fans on it) • Zara skirt • Ashley Watson recycled leather bag • Hunter boots

Summer Layers

Oh goodness, what a week. While Lar has been keeping AsianCajuns afloat, I’ve been spending most of my waking hours in a car – or at least it’s felt like that. Troy and I had to drive up to Vandalia, OH unexpectedly last week for his grandmother’s funeral. It was an intense couple of days sandwiched between two nine hour drives. Almost as soon as we got back from Ohio, we jumped back in the car and headed to Dahlonega (about an hour north of Atlanta) for a short weekend getaway we’ve been planning for a month. The past six days have been a mix of emotions without any downtime and I’m exhausted.

My cure for exhaustion? Nope. Not sleep – sleep is overrated! If I really want to feel energized, I spend hours reading other fashion/design/lifestyle blogs. I get so inspired by the creativity of others. This summer I’ve noticed a lot of style bloggers have learned to work the layered look in the heat. So I tried it out myself.

Usually just the thought of wearing layers in the Atlanta heat would get me sweating, but I’ve learned to keep it minimal – like my yellow dress that’s pretty skimpy on the top and a crop top with loose short sleeves. I was outside for a good five minutes while Lar took these photos and I didn’t even begin to sweat. Success!

Outfit details: American Apparel dress, Dolce Vita top, Dolce Vita sandals, freebie faux Ray-Bans, second-hand necklace and AsianCajun necklace from MyNameNecklace.com.

And here’s a little bit more layering for you – in necklace form. Not the most unique idea, but I figured I’d point it out since the whole point of this post is about layers. Or is it about inspiration?

This Dolce Vita top is one of those purchases I made thinking I’d wear it a lot more than I do. I love the look of it – especially the handmade stamp vibe of the graphics on the back – but it’s kind of an awkward length. It’s not a full on crop top, but it’s short-waisted enough to look white-trashy with denim shorts.

I didn’t realize this outfit consisted of so much Dolce Vita until I started working on this post. I bought the sandals over a year ago and still love them so much. I imagine it’s the type of shoe Audrey Hepburn would wear if she was filming Roman Holiday in 2011.

I’m feeling better already. Here’s to a less stressful week!

Foodie Outfits

On Cath: My Name necklace (Cath got us each an AsianCajun necklace for our bday! Thanks, Kitcath!) • thrifted top from Finders KeepersFrye shoes

On Lar: LNA dress • French Connection for Sears vest • necklace from Squash Blossom boutique • Unleashed shoes

At least once a week Cath and I, our menfolk and our local foodie blogger meet up at Miso Izakaya.  This seems a little extravagant – not that Miso is too pricey, just definitely more costly than beans and rice at home – but Cath and I love good food. So these photos are taken at our favorite watering hole.

If I didn’t have such a wimpy stomach, I would weigh at least 80-100 more pounds than I do today. I especially love desserts. I wanted to be a pastry chef after my dreams of being a ballerina soured when I was 17 (Can’t dance?  Chocolate and butter sound better anyway!). And ever since I was a wee lass, I’ve taken copious photos of what I eat, especially when I travel. Even before digital cameras I would come back from a trip with hundreds of photos displaying heaping plates of deliciousness. Goes without saying, but: nom, nom, nommmmm.

The Classic Cath Office Outfit

I know it’s kind of crappy to start thinking about the work week on Sunday, but doesn’t that always happen? It starts creeping in early afternoon, but doesn’t become obnoxious until 4 or 5 pm (“Your weekend is almost over- ahhhh!!! Do something quick! Reverse time! No! Extend time!”). Usually by 8 pm on Sunday night, I’m a grumpy mess. One of the only ways to combat the Sunday grumps (apart from ice cream and West Wing reruns), is having a good outfit picked out for Monday morning.

Cath always inspires me to dress better at work. My office is really informal, and unless I have a client meeting, I could roll in wearing jeans and a T-shirt. But I always feel less focused and kind of schleppy when I do. Whenever I see Cath for lunch, I always think “ooo I should have totally dressed like that.”

A classic summer office outfit for her is a gorgeous blouse (sleeveless for Atlanta summers), a simple skirt, and beautiful shoes.

On Cath: top from Barney’s swiped for free at a clothing swap • skirt is Limited • shoes Seychelles

Cath also manages to look chic and elegant on a teeny tiny budget. You’re my hero, Kitcath!

If I had all the money in the world (or just, you know, a few more thousand), I would by Cath all this stuff from Current Elliot and Equipment – a little more work week inspiration for ya:

Put A Feather in Your Hair

Aren’t these feathers gorgeous? Cath had them put in her hair the other day at Squash Blossom. I sooo wish I had been there to get all subtly hippie-fied. Cath was worried that it would be considered unprofessional at her place of work (city government), so she had the feather lady (Cath, what’s her name?) hide them under a few layers.

Generally Cath dresses with such professionalism (no short-shorts for her at work  – can’t say the same thing for her twin sister) that a few feathers are just her piece of flare. What say you?

Things Are Looking Up

The good this week: shooting that TBS pilot at Sugar Coated Radical. The bad: Matt has been away in LA for a conference all week – boo. The ugly: I’ve had bronchitis for a week and a half and sound like a 4-pack a day smoker).

Luckily Friday evening redeemed the bad and the ugly for Cath and I. We met up with a bunch of friends at (where else) Miso Izakaya – yum yum yum yummmmehhh!

On moi/Lar: Tee from Kohl’s • Old H&M cargo skirt • Vest is FCUK for Sears (for Sears! Can you believe it?) • Mango shoes • Deux Lux purse

On Cath: F21 dress • swap meet necklace • Madewell shoes • Tennessee-made bracelet (local artisan) • Frank Gehry for Tiffany’s ring

Ooo and look what I had for dessert at Miso (below)! It’s not usually on the menu but because we know people in high places (thanks, Chloe!), the sous chef, who happens to be a trained pastry chef, whipped this beauty up! Belgian waffle, topped with Georgia Pearson Farm Peaches, a generous dollop of hand-whipped cream, topped with lemon mint – heavenly!!!

When I get really excited by dessert (which is often/every day), I’m a really, really bad sharer. I barely let Cath take a bite and shielded it from my friends. Nice, right? I didn’t even know Cath was taking a picture (hence the blurry, self/dessert-absorbed movement):

Cath is much more refined than me and looks like this when waiting for food:

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend ahead! We’re heading out to dry the new arepas food truck at Duck’s Cosmic Kitchen!

Filming a Pilot for TBS at Sugar Coated Radical!

Cath and I, along with four awesome ATL foodies/bloggers, got to stuff our faces with chocolate and beer on camera today. It was a hard day’s work, but somebody is spoiled has to do it!

We can’t tell you the name of the show just yet, but (fingers-crossed) it should air on TBS in the not-too-distant future. We’re basically just talking extras on this one show, so we won’t be on camera for more than a minute. But the shoot was a few hours of moaning over incredible chocolate and beer tastings by Sugar Coated Radical. Ahhhh blisss!

Cath and I decided we should be really twin-y, so we wore quasi matching outfits:

On Cath: Bobi tee • Madewell belt, necklace and shoes • Gap 1969 skirt and leather wrap bracelet

On Lar: Bobi tee • Zara skirt • Gap belt • Jeffery Campbell shoes • ring from Heliotrope

Decatur Arts Fest is Today! Where You At?

On Cath: H&M tunic as top • Limited skirt • Dolce Vita shoes • Purse and necklace via Vivid Boutique in Decatur

On Lar/Moi: H&M top • AE shorts • J. Crew belt • Duex Lux purse • Gladiators from shop in Florence many years ago • Necklace from Snoozer Loser

Seriously, we wish you guys were all local so we could bump into you today at our favorite art event of the year: the Decatur Arts Festival. There’s gonna be painting, sculpture, leather work, glass blowing, funnel cakes, lemonade! How soon can you get here?

How the AsianCajuns Keep Their Cool: New Orleans Snoballs

Hotlanta is earning it’s name this week. And the fun part? Matt and I have decided to try to save money (“and the world!” says Matt. Hey, stop reading over my shoulder while I write!) by not turning on our air-conditioning for most of the summer. Gahhhhhhh. Readers, you can look forward to gorgeous outfit pics of Cath and a shimmery glistening puddle from me!

One antidote (apart from sneaking on the air when he’s not looking)? Snoballs!!! Notice the lack of a “w” in “snow.” That means we aren’t talking about those things that make snowmen. You eat ’em!

Snoballs are a lot like snow cones, but better. Wayyyy better. The ice is shaved, so it’s light and fluffy and not chunky crystals you get in a cone. You add your favorite syrups on top (New Orleans Snoball Cafe in Decatur has organic flavors and flavors sweetened with agave instead of just sugar in addition to your usual Hurricane, Pink Lemonade, etc.). Then – if you want to be really Cajun about it – you put condensed milk on top, and/or put ice cream in the center of your snoball! On a hot summer’s day, it’s bliss!

Lucky for me (and less lucky for my diet plan), New Orleans Snoball Cafe is right by where I work! It’s much more fulfilling (in every way) than a water-cooler break.

On Cath: sweater H&M • tank from Lavish in San Francisco • skirt F21 • purse from Vivid Boutique in Decatur • shoes MIA
