Whistler White

Our parents recently moved down to Decatur/Atlanta from our hometown of North Potomac, Maryland (just outside of D.C.). I snuck into their beautiful new home this week to use their library as a back-drop.

One of our mom’s favorite painters is Whistler (see poster in middle of above photo) and he seemed to favor painting dark-haired women dressed in flowy white gowns. I love how natural the women look in his paintings. They don’t have diamonds dripping off them or silk gloves scrunched to their elbows, and their hair looks a bit wild (see here and here).

It’s not gown, but my Jovovich Hawk for Target dress is a good substitute. I rarely wear anything this girly (lace + corset + ruffles), so it feels more natural to toughen up the frills withย those new buckle platforms. Nothing saysย Symphony in White more than faux black alligator and hardware.

Cath and I are still working out the kinks with WordPress, but we hope you are all enjoying our new home! We’ll let you know when we figure out how you can follow us (fellow wordpress users, any clues?). We do have a blue RSS feed button at the top (thanks for reminding me, Emily ;), so feel free to click on that- but as far as following us through Blog Loving, etc. – it might take us a few days to figure that out.

Have a marvelous weekend, everyone!

  1. I guess great minds do think alike? Adore your white girlie dress and how your mom’s library is all decorated with white themes. Especially love the birdcages and Whistler’s painting, they add such a nice touch to the room:)

  2. Do you mean follow you like with an RSS feed? There’s a big blue RSS button in the top right-hand side of the page when I visit. Is there another way you want people to follow?

Anyways, thanks for the education on Whistler. Interesting!

  3. Hey Laur! Your parents’ house looks beautiful! Love your dress and shoes! I’m not sure how people can follow you on wordpress- I just do the very basic things on my blog ๐Ÿ™‚ I had one of my developers at work mess with the code and then I hadn’t realized I had to pay for the customization so it was a waste of time- maybe one day I’ll do the upgrade ๐Ÿ™‚

PS- That’s actually not my new balcony, it’s the side of my our old apartment building (took that photo back in the beginning of July). We only moved a two minute drive away and now have 2 balconies (off my bedroom and the living room)- it just overlooks the courtyard so no Hollywood hills views from this one! Bec and I are totally still in boxes. I haven’t even cleared off my bed (transferred dresses I didn’t want getting crushed in a box/suitcase and coats and they’re still on my bed) so I’ve been passing out on the couch! At least the horrible move is over! Hope you girls have a great weekend!!

  4. happy friday ladies! and i do the same thing! i always make something real femme into more edgy which is my style. you look great! and the birdcages are to die for!

  5. My, your parents have a BEA.U.TI.FUL home! I love the romantic, girly dress on you, Lar! Those lace details are so lovely.
Ooh and those shoes. Are taunting me. Again.
    Happy weekend, doll ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

LOL@ your comment – trick question, haha – you are too kind!

  6. What a beautiful home your parents have! And I can relate to needing a contrast to girly ruffles and lace. I think pairing the dress (which is beautiful by the way) with those hot heels was a good call. Have a terrific weekend!

  7. What a lovely home! I love how it looks so sunny and bright inside!! You look so pretty in that white dress and of course those shoes look so fab on you! Have an amzing weekend! xxoxoxoxo

  8. Thanks for the well wishes! Your parents’ house looks amazing.you guys always put together the best photos. When you go to China, let me know, I have a TON of relatives here.

  9. Wow these photos are stunning- the white theme in the room is lovely. I really like the shot near that amazing birdcage! I’ve been looking for a girly, lacy dress like that to go wear with my newly acquired leather vest! I love how you’ve toughened it up with those shoes.

Also yay for being Cantonese! I was going to say that not too many bloggers are Cantonese but Susie Bubble is cantonese too! The dessert is called ‘Sweet Almond Soup’ or a ”tong sui’ in Cantonese. Really yummy!

  10. The light in your parent’s library is absolutely gorgeous. Your mother has gorgeous taste in art. Must run in the family! You also look amazing. I wish I could have gotten my hands on Jovovich Hawk for Target but alas not meant to be. I love the lace ruffle.

  11. Hey girls ๐Ÿ™‚
OMG – I’m in love with all of your pictures! Your parents home looks soooo stylish and wonderful! Amazing pictures and a swet & very romantic outfit!! I really love your shoes! And what ana amazing bargain!! ๐Ÿ˜Ž They’re awesome! I’ve safed some money to purchase the Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Boots – and they’re very gorgeous and I like them a lot. But to get in and out of them it’s quite a little bit of pain. 3 minutes for each, depending on your daily form of prestidigitation hehe. So there isn’t only light on these big investment shoes ๐Ÿ˜‰
Wishing you and the family a lovely Sunday!!
Again – love your new blog!! ๐Ÿ˜€
    much love, sofie

  13. How exciting that your parents have moved nearby. Have you just been a wealth of information for nice restaurants, shopping spots, etc.? I’m sure!

  14. Wow, the interior of your parent’s library is absolutely lovely. I really like the white an classy theme that’s going on in the decor. The dress that your wearing fits the feel of the room perfectly.

  15. Great combo of shoes and dress. Wish I could advise you on WordPress but it defeats me. I just give everything to my programmer. ๐Ÿ™
