Have you guys noticed in past posts what nutters we are for Scotland? Cath and I studied abroad in Edinburgh in 2004 and then Matt (Monsieur Mustachio) and I visited last year – which actually began this whole moving thing.
Since studying abroad, Cath and I have always said if the we could move to Scotland we would in a heartbeat. Once again, we have no idea where all this Celtic love crept in. We have no Scottish ancestry (German, yup. French, check. Irish, English, Danish, check, check, check. Chinese – but not Scottish). Studying in Edinburgh was a bit of a whim (I wasn’t even sure exactly where Scotland was located in the UK before we went there — file that under “things you shouldn’t admit in public,” please). But Scotland wrapped us in its green, peaty, woolly bear hug, and we couldn’t wait to go back at the first chance.
Now I have a chance to move there with the man of my dreams (that’s you again, Mr. Mustachio), and I’m really, truly excited, but the excitement is very strongly tempered with a heavy dose of *&%!-I-Won’t-See-My-Twinie-For-6-Months-At-A-Time!!! I’m so not okay with that. I don’t think Cath is either. In fact, we haven’t really discussed it, have we, Kitcath?
So that’s where you come in, AsianCajun readers. We’ll be morphing this blog to be a bit like a twin love letter to keep in touch with each other and you. Cath will tell me everything she is up to in the big peachy ATL, and I’ll tell her everything I do stomping around in my rain boots in Edinburgh.
These changes will happen at the end of the summer (I’ll be moving in September), but I just wanted to give you guys a heads up.
p.s. That photo above obviously has nothing to do with Scotland, but my expression is kind of how I feel: wistful, bittersweet. (Actually, that’s what I look like when I wear too many clothes on a hot humid Atlanta afternoon, and I start grimacing because I can feel another fat drop of sweat roll down my back).
Oh my gosh, lady, I’m THRILLED for you!
Wow. Am very jealous! Have wanted to move back to the UK for ages – but yes, leaving behind family, especially a twin, is rough. Good luck and be prepared for some colder weather ; )
Thanks so much, Leila! If you get a chance to visit the UK anytime soon, please stop by Edinburgh!
So sad to see you go, but at the same time I’m completely jealous. I’m also excited to read about your adventures in Scotland!
I can’t wait to read your love letters! uh, voyeur much, laura?
What an amazing idea, I’m excited to hear about your new life in Edinburgh! Sorry you guys have to split up (for awhile at least), but you know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder! It’ll be tough, but just imagine how awesome it will be when you come to the States to visit or when Cath visits you over there. So fun!
Ahhh that’s so exciting!!! But sad that you guys are getting split up! Boooo.
I think that’s a great idea! With you both on different continents, time zones and climate, thre’s going to be no shortage of amazing tales.
Ahhh! So exciting! I hope you and Matt will be there for awhile-I responded to your comment on my blog, but in case you didn’t see-I’m doing the whole “move to the UK with my dude” thing around Christmas of this year. Hope you’re still there, and we can meet up-American ladies unite:)
when my sis moved to cali for a few years. i spoke with her every single day! and we still do that now and we live in the same city. but i def missed her and i visited at least once a year as well.
you def need to get a vid camera or a laptop with the vid installed and skype!
Ah!!! SO exciting!!
That sounds sooo wonderful!! My boss is Scottish and only has the best things to say about it, of course. I’m always jealous when he goes home every year. I can’t wait to see all the happenings!
I started using Skype when my sister took that month-long trip to Costa Rica a while back. We became so enamored by it that she and I (she in Miami, me in Decatur) now have coffee together almost every morning, on our respective back porches.
You’ll have the time zone thing to contend with, but perhaps Cath will be having her morning coffee while you are taking tea?
Welcome to the expat life!
I can hardly believe you are moving overseas! SO Exciting!
I’m along for the ride wherever you guys are located. My sister just moved home after having lived for a year in Korea and then in Japan for 11 months. It was hard not to see her on holidays and more than twice a year but we did our best with Skype and I got a trip to Korea and Hawaii out of her foreign wanderings. You guys will be okay!
very exciting! wishing you and your hubby the best on the this new adventure! luv ur blog!
I’m just catching up with my blog reading. How exciting to be moving to Scotland! We’ll miss you, but can’t wait to see pics from your new home!
so excited for you! can’t wait to go along for the ride 🙂
