<p>Cath and I love Charleston: the history, the gorgeous houses, the beach, the food&#8230; and the people! One of my besties lives there, so my bf and I headed to the coast last weekend to visit him and his bf. I was a reluctant photographer over the weekend, so I swiped a few of these from Nate. If you need to know where to go and (more importantly) what to eat and drink when in Charleston, go to Nate&#8217;s blog <a href="http://natelacy.net/review/" target="_blank">The Review</a>: heavenly photos and witty tips.</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/ctown_alley.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1970" title="ctown_alley" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/ctown_alley.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="573" /></a></p>
<p>We spent the evenings strolling the historic alleyways of Charleston and sipping (okay, downing) some delicious cocktails on <a href="http://natelacy.net/review/?p=101" target="_blank">roof-top bars</a>.</p>
<p>In between drinks, we also ate real food (dinner at <a href="http://natelacy.net/review/?p=16" target="_blank">Lucca</a> and brunch at <a href="http://natelacy.net/review/?p=119" target="_blank">High Cotton</a>). Below is a photo of the heavenly, heavenly banana and nutella turnover I swooned over at a little coffee shop.</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/ctown_turnover.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1971" title="ctown_turnover" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/ctown_turnover.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="322" /></a></p>
<p>We topped off our pre-cocktail drinks with a round of white Russians (my favorite!). Pst the writer of <a href="http://natelacy.net/review/" target="_blank">The Review</a>, my bestie, is on the right (our bfs are in the muddle).</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/ctown_group.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1972" title="ctown_group" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/ctown_group.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="309" /></a></p>
<p>I hope you guys have a wonderful Friday and weekend! Drink a white Russian for me <img src='http://asiancajuns.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p>Take a long scarf, fold it in half, drape it around your neck. Belt the whole thing at your waist, et voila! It&#8217;s kind of like wearing a vest without a back.</p>
<p><em>Scarf and tank are from Old Navy, belt is <a href="http://www.shopbop.com/madewell/br/v=1/2534374302143731.htm" target="_blank">Madewell</a>, skirt is from Target.</em></p>
<p>The shoes are&#8230; <a href="http://www.shopbop.com/frye/br/v=1/2534374302024536.htm" target="_blank">Frye</a>. Here&#8217;s the thing about these shoes..</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/scarf_shoes.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1958" title="scarf_shoes" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/scarf_shoes.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="299" /></a></p>
<p>&#8230; these are my vanity shoes. They aren&#8217;t comfortable (hello, wooden sole, you inflexible bastard) and I kind of teeter more than walk at 5.5 inches, but they put me in the neighborhood of 5&#8217;8 (almost the height of a short model!) and the buff color makes my legs look even longer. I wear them on days when I&#8217;m going to be sitting. Alot.</p>

<p>Remember <a href="http://asiancajuns.com/2010/06/15/mean-reds-crop-tops-at-work/" target="_blank">The Crop Top to Work</a> idea from a few posts back? I did it again, but took it one step further– neon. If someone said to me &#8220;Oh I just love wearing neon, especially if it shows off my belly button ring&#8221; I would probably back away slowly, but I actually own just such a piece of clothing, and I wear it to work. Again, I paired it with a high-waisted skirt and a black cami underneath. The minute I actually start showings off my (non-existent) belly button ring, you can stop reading this blog.</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/neon_close.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1938" title="neon_close" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/neon_close.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="271" /></a></p>
<p>To add to the neon (kind of like gilding the lily), I decided to wear my very large, clear plastic necklace from <a href="http://rockitatl.blogspot.com/2008/09/rockit-boutique_01.html" target="_blank">Rockit</a>.</p>
<p>ps- I hope you guys are having a great weekend! What are you up to? My bf and I are in Charleston visiting <a href="http://asiancajuns.com/2010/03/08/beware-the-idesall-of-march/" target="_blank">this guy</a> again. Miss you, Cath!</p>

<p>Atlanta gets the kind of heat that just sits on you and makes you sweat. What do you wear when wearing anything sounds heavy&#8211; especially at work where sitting in your underwear is not an option? I&#8217;ve mentioned the discreet <a href="http://asiancajuns.com/2010/06/15/mean-reds-crop-tops-at-work/" target="_blank">crop top</a> method and the <a href="http://asiancajuns.com/2010/06/23/wearing-a-bib/" target="_blank">obnoxiously-sized accessories</a> to mask the fact that you are just wearing a tank top. How &#8217;bout more accessories (a belt!) and light, light layers (see embroidered vest).</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/bohoish.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1837" title="bohoish" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/bohoish.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="331" /></a></p>
<p>I went shopping in my closet and found: an embroidered vest from Urban that I usually don&#8217;t wear because it&#8217;s a little boho for me, a Tara Jarmon for Target tunic, Target skirt (I usually use this as a <a href="http://asiancajuns.com/2009/10/12/versatile-layers/" target="_blank">petitcoat</a> of sorts), belt from <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Decatur-GA/ROCKIT/11330531015" target="_blank">Rockit</a> in Decatur, shoes are from Cinti in Florence.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;m not the only one strapped for cash (I feel like I&#8217;ve been &#8220;shopping&#8221; in my own closet for months). Wouldn&#8217;t it be nice to have the money fairy deposit a generous sum under our pillows tonight. If that doesn&#8217;t happen you can try this:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.atlantamagazine.com/" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1841" title="atlmag" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/atlmag.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="147" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.atlantamagazine.com/" target="_blank"> Atlanta Magazine</a> is holding a fashion contest: upload a photo of yourself <a href="http://www.atlantamagazine.com/contest/headtotoe/main.aspx" target="_blank">here</a>, and you are entered to win $250 and be in Atlanta Magazine! <p>Here&#8217;s why: it&#8217;s yet <a href="http://asiancajuns.com/2010/06/15/mean-reds-crop-tops-at-work/" target="_blank">another way</a> to try to maintain a certain level of stylish creativity when it gets so hot and humid you can&#8217;t even be bothered to put on more than underwear. Instead of a drab ole tank and skirt or shorts, slap on a bib and voila! You look like you tried without breaking a sweat (even at 85% humidity)!</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/bib_outfit.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1812" title="bib_outfit" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/bib_outfit.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="541" /></a></p>
<p><em>Tank and skirt (years and years old) from AA, shoes are Jeffery Campbell, bib is from Kitcath, cuff is from <a href="http://www.evolve-boutique.com/Evolve_Boutique/Home.html" target="_blank">Evolve Boutique </a>(made from reused/recycled metal).</em></p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/bib_yard.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1813" title="bib_yard" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/bib_yard.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="301" /></a></p>
<p>Sharing the wealth, I put it on our resident Puck/Bacchus. He prefers to pair it with just a loosely wrapped loin cloth and pan pipe. To each their own. I&#8217;d suggest trying my skirt/tank combo first before trying it his way. Apparently it&#8217;s easier to get away with that sort of thing when you are immortal.</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/yellow.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1816" title="yellow" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/yellow.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="549" /></a></p>
<p>Oh! And don&#8217;t forget about our <a href="http://asiancajuns.com/2010/06/21/another-asiancajun-give-away/" target="_blank">Shabby Apple dress contest</a>! Read the <a href="http://asiancajuns.com/2010/06/21/another-asiancajun-give-away/" target="_blank">post</a> below and leave a comment. We&#8217;ll close the comments on Thursday at 11:59 p.m. and the announce the winner this weekend. Good luck, you wonderful people you!</p>

<p>I&#8217;m standing in Cath&#8217;s teeny little kitchen (isn&#8217;t it so cute?). She&#8217;s painting her (also teeny) dining room and living space this week, so there will be more sneak-peaks of her apartment in the not too distant future. All of these photos were shot with Cath&#8217;s new Evo: fancy phone, not so fancy photos.</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/reds_toycamera.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1760" title="reds_toycamera" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/reds_toycamera.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="353" /></a><br />
<em>Top and skirt are AA, shoes are from Payless.</em></p>
<p>I used to despise crop-tops. I&#8217;m not sure why. I don&#8217;t hate bare stomachs of any shape or size (outside of the work place and in really warm climates). Just something about them irks me &#8211; usually. But I bought this <a href="http://store.americanapparel.net/" target="_blank">American Apparel</a> crop-top a while back because I thought &#8220;Holly Golightly would wear this.&#8221; I&#8217;m not sure if she actually would, but we won&#8217;t let Truman Capote know (hell, he wanted Marilyn Monroe to play Holly and not Audrey- what does he know about his own characters). Anyways, who wouldn&#8217;t like this? It&#8217;s got zips on the shoulders (the shoulders!) and is more structured than your average crop top &#8211; it&#8217;s made with a heavier gauged jersey.</p>
<p>While I was at work, I had the skirt hiked up so high you couldn&#8217;t see any skin, but it affords just the right amount of ventilation for our Hotlanta humidity- without resorting to anything too scandalous. For the photos, I slid the skirt down just a tad (to my waist instead of my rib cage) just so you could see that the top and the bottom are separate pieces.</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/reds_equation.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1764" title="reds_equation" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/reds_equation.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="206" /></a></p>
<p>I can&#8217;t find the zip crop top online, but a looser crop top would work in more informal offices. Would you wear the crop top/high-waisted pencil skirt combo to work?</p>
<p><a href="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/reds_snowmen.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1759" title="reds_snowmen" src="http://asiancajuns.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/reds_snowmen.jpg" alt="" width="430" height="287" /></a></p>
<p>If crop tops still make you gag (apologies!), here is some distraction: these guys (above) live on Cath&#8217;s teeny stove. They are salt and pepper shaker <a href="http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/questions/beefeaters.htm" target="_blank">beefeaters</a> we picked up on our first trip to London many moons ago, but we&#8217;ve been told they look more like radioactive snowmen. They don&#8217;t wear crop tops. Neon green collars, yes. Crop tops, never.</p>
